We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Arthur a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue this creative path when I wanted to create apparel that represent something more. As I was seeing apparel being marketed and worn daily, I realized that clothing at the present time was merely trendy. As I noticed these trends, I often wondered how people gravitated to what they wore. Was it the clothing itself? The material? The messaging and story of the design itself? These thoughts and reflections along with the seasons I was experiencing in life made me question if anyone was going through similar circumstances. These seasons that God was taking me through were processes that only God could get me through led to the brand name “It’s All God”. What these experiences produced inside of me, all my accomplishments, whether it’s up or down seasons, I know it was the Lord sustaining.
This led me to use clothing as a creative outlet to believe that others needed the same encouragement.

Christopher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the creative industry by learning day by day the in and outs of what it takes to market a product. I leaned heavily on the talented friendships I had around me to teach me the “How Tos”. I went through the many processes of making mistakes and learning as I go. This process was met with also being a sponge to people who’ve came before me and identifying the gaps that made me more & more confident after every collection.
What I want my readers to know about myself is that I desire my gifts or creative works to point to him. Whether that’s simply through a conversation, shared experiences, or being able to relate through someone through loving how a certain piece of clothing looks. What I want my brand to display is simply a tool to point back to him.
I think we’re quick today to point to us as the sole reason for our identity within our different gifting, or purpose but it is God who is ultimately given us the grace day by day to be able to live out our lives. And this is what I’m most proud of, having people identify and support this message as I’m blessed with more & more ideas to design differently. A dream I’ve also been able to experience is have my clothing worn by an NBA player which was pretty cool to see how far God took this.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn early and even today is to just start. I think 999999.99% of the time we procrastinate of things, businesses, goals, that God has called us to do because of fear. We let fear of not knowing the next step, not having all the necessary resources or even the “aesthetic” of how things should look hold us back.
I had to learn to just start. The mistakes will come. You won’t be perfect. There’s no such thing. I had to learn that there’s really some things that have to happen to you internally to be able to sustain you on this journey of living out the purpose the Lord has for you.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an creative is being able to see how an small idea you have is able to touch or encouragement people. Hearing how a simple t shirt along with expressing the back story can cause someone out there, unknowingly to find encouragement that they needed. And to provide that is, priceless. I have no clue how each collection will touch someone, I remember saying to myself, even if it’s just 1 person, that’s enough.
