Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lily Pham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
In the photography industry, I’m noticing some stunning new trends emerging, especially around weddings. One standout trend is the use of drapery at wedding altars, which adds a sense of elegance and softness. The flowing fabric creates beautiful backdrops for photographs and adds a romantic touch to the ceremony setting. Whether it’s light and airy fabrics or heavier, more structured drapes, they are becoming a key visual element in wedding photography.
Another trend I’m seeing is the resurgence of dropped-waist wedding gowns. These gowns have a timeless, vintage-inspired look that’s both chic and flattering. The dropped waistline adds a sophisticated, elongated silhouette that stands out. They’re not only beautiful but also photograph really well, adding grace and movement in photos.
In terms of wedding themes, couples are increasingly embracing more personalized and colorful themes. Gone are the days of strictly white or neutral color palettes—now we’re seeing weddings with bold, vibrant colors, which add personality and create striking visual moments. These bright themes reflect the individuality of the couple, that offer endless creative possibilities for photographers to capture unique and amazing shots.
At the same time, classic and classy wedding styles never go out of fashion. Timeless elements like elegant black-and-white decor, soft floral arrangements, and sophisticated attire are still making their mark. There’s a beautiful mix of modern and traditional, allowing photographers to balance the rich textures and colors of a wedding with the classic, elegant elements that never fade in popularity.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a photographer who specializes in wedding photography, with a journey that started in community college. After discovering my love for the arts, I pursued a BA at Cal State Fullerton, where I dove deeper into the world of photography. What has always fascinated me about photography is the ability to freeze a moment in time, preserving a memory exactly as it is. Though I’ve photographed many subjects over the years, I found my true passion in capturing people, events, and especially weddings.
Over the course of 13 years in this industry, I’ve learned countless valuable lessons. One of the most important is the power of patience—both with myself and the process. I’ve also learned to trust in my skills and the work I produce. It’s essential to love what you do, to stay true to your vision, and never let anything interfere with your happiness and the joy your work brings.
Weddings are a particular joy for me. I love meeting amazing couples and connecting with their friends and family. The elegance of weddings is timeless, and there’s always something fresh and exciting about each one. What I’m most proud of is being myself with my clients—helping them feel comfortable, allowing them to be themselves, and ensuring they have an unforgettable experience. I truly believe that the best photos come from people who are at ease and enjoying the moment.
The photography industry is ever-evolving, and I’m constantly eager to learn and grow, keeping up with the latest trends and technologies. But one thing will always remain the same: my dedication to capturing the beauty and joy of life’s most special moments.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What really helped build my reputation in the wedding photography business is my passion for connecting with other artists and individuals who are open-minded and willing to share their stories and experiences. Building relationships and friendships with fellow photographers has been incredibly valuable. By collaborating and working alongside others, I’ve gained invaluable insights and exposure. Word of mouth has been the most powerful way to spread the word about my business, allowing me to showcase my work and reputation through the trust of others.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to do something I love and be successful at it. After an incredible wedding shoot, I get so excited to come home, upload the images, and look through the moments I captured—it’s like receiving a present. When I see my clients feel the same joy and connection with the photos as I do, I know my job is complete, and that feeling makes everything worth it.
