We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alicia Hardy-Woodard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

In 2013 my husband and I dressed up as clowns for our son‘s fourth birthday party. We invited all the neighborhood children for the celebration and had many games and prizes. It was such a good time, as we seen the excitement in the children, and wanted to continue to spread joy. We started slow with some of our friend’s children at their birthday parties. The fun and play we bring with our service, we knew this could be something that is much needed in the community.
A lot of our first volunteer work was with the Community Juneteenth celebrations, the City Parades and the local neighborhood parks. We would host a carnival type game, paint faces, twist balloons and take unlimited pictures for memories to last a lifetime. We introduced simple play, things like sidewalk chalk , jump rope bubbles balloons, etc.. The amount of joy we bring to the new generation of people is so rewarding. It’s conditioning the innocence of mankind. No matter your age, or where you are in life, we encourage everyone to remember what makes them happy and to play!

Alicia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We sell togetherness and happiness. We sell, smiles and love with hugs. Being a nurture at heart makes what we do come natural. The amount of exposure has allowed us to cure the fear of clowns. We’ve also encourage family gatherings and get together’s by having something fun for the entire family. Our business is operated with characters of color. That representation has opened many doors and shows what we are doing is unique but necessary.
This business also shows the hard-working woman as well as the powerful union of a marriage.
Being the city’s Mr and Mrs Black Santa has been the best ride ever! December 2024 we were selected to light the city’s Christmas Tree! It’s a huge event put on every year, it’s the marking of the holiday season. To be a part of making history is humbling!
This business allows us to listen to the little people and hear what makes them happy. We give the people, children at heart, a place where there is no judging, just imagination and play and NO CRYING!! lol

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

My Business Partner just so happens to by my husband! We met on Beach 6 in Erie PA! The son we share together is the son that brought this business to life. My business partner is a natural nurture, very funny and compassionate. His love for children shows how much he would do for the world. My husband brings out the colorful side of me, allows me to live a fairy tale and be loved. Our business was created because we know we have a Good Thing as a Couple. To represent A Strong His and Her Business with His And Her Characters as Well as a Foundation of Family SELLS ITS SELF! We promote Family by showing our family business with our children volunteering along side of us. Hosting Family Reunions that bring families together or events like Juneteenth, bringing Communities together. Inclusivity is number 1 with us!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

We were outcasted and looked over by other businesses because we are brown. There has been children entertainers that will not collab with us for that reason. I am very saddened about that. In today’s day and age, there is still a gap that needs to be closed and inclusive. I am here to be certain that there is safe place that supports everyone! A place of inclusivity, play and fun! Special needs and beyond!
