Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brysonn Leggs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brysonn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Since I was 4 years old, I knew that someday I would become a professional dancer, choreographer, and educator. I would have visions of me dancing backstage of artists, becoming a teacher, and of me creating my own movements. The moment I knew I had a gift as a dancer and choreographer is when I became a dancer of Fisk University’s Ladies of R.A.G.E. my freshmen year in college. It was my pride and joy. After my sophomore year, I learned that I was pregnant with my daughter, Ryonn, and I was mostly concerned that I would miss the opportunity to become captain. I had worked very hard to be next up in line to lead the team my senior year and there was nothing that was going to get in the way of that. And nothing did. I created a plan and stuck with it. My plan was to try out (5 months pregnant) to keep my spot on the team, attend all practices, make good grades, and serve as a leader on the team. I executed this plan entirely, and 2 weeks after giving birth, I became captain and performed for halftime after learning the routine in 5 minutes. My entire pregnancy I made straight As which was very difficult for me as a biology major, but I had something to prove.
I didn’t pursue dance professionally until 2018 when I discovered Aliya Janell, a major heels instructor/choreographer in the industry and creator of Queens N Lettos. This is when fell in love with heels dancing and became super inspired to start my own brand, Succulent Leggs. I taught my first heels class March 22nd, 2018. It was the start of what made me who I am today. I can honestly say that I wasn’t the best when I first started, but I knew I would be great if I kept going. My classes grew very rapidly, and I grew with my class and solidified a foundation for my brand to expand. It started as a hobby but later became a mission when I incorporated chakra meditation through affirmations. I didn’t want to just teach dance. I wanted to leave an impact and encourage my students to understand that being a great dancer isn’t created by learning the moves alone, but from the amount of work that is done within. As I witnessed the growth of my students, I naturally became a mentor and later created Bloom Mentorship (recently renamed Nu Bloom) in 2021. Nu Bloom is a holistic wellness movement designed to inspire internal healing, physical transformation, and spiritual growth. Our tagline, “Inner Healing, Outer Glow, Let’s Grow”, highlights the overall purpose of Nu Bloom.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Subsequent to being a mother of 4 (my two biological children plus two bonus children), I am a multifaceted creative entrepreneur. Throughout my years of evolving as a dancer, choreographer, leader, and creative, I have discovered several other key components of myself that I want others to know about me. I’m a vegan chef, owner of a retail business (Bougie Baé, LLC), educator, actor, model, fitness and beauty influencer, and dance coach. I’ve been told that it is best to focus on one thing at a time, but I don’t feel my best focusing on one thing. Although I don’t suggest tackling every passion at once, I do find it necessary to find ways to balance them out the best you can. When you are a multifaceted creative it is imperative to keep the different parts of yourself alive. It is, in fact, possible to do it all and have it all. It takes faith. It takes strategic planning. It takes goal setting. It takes discipline. It takes consistency. It takes rest.
Succulent Leggs is my dance brand where I mainly offer heels choreography and classes, private 1 on 1s, and group classes. Brysonn Leggs brands me as an overall creative. This is where I am booked as a model, actor, dancer, choreographer, and creative director. Nu Bloom is a holistic wellness movement I’ve created to inspire and guide individuals on a transformative journey of healing, growth, and total body wellness. Bougie Baé, llc is a sunglasses and swimwear brand created to boost confidence with our bold and trendy wholesale designs. Bougie Baé is currently going through a revamp period where I am elevating the brand by creating sunglasses and swimwear pieces designed by me. Bougie Baé is expected to relaunch Spring 2027. Lastly, I coach the Enchanting Ladies of East Nashville High. Enchanting Ladies is a high school dance line of the ENHS Marching Band who is known for our dynamic movement and performance. I am entering my second season as the Head Coach.
What separates me from the collective is that I pursue it all while managing a household, a full-time career, multiple brands, my spiritual, physical, and mental wellbeing without feeling the need to sacrifice my dreams for motherhood. My journey has been a slow cooking process because I have a family that depends on me for their entire wellbeing. Being able to fully pursue myself and dreams is where I am truly happy. What better mother should my children need than a mother that is fulfilled, happy, and walking in her purpose? You don’t have to choose between being a great mother and pursuing your dreams. You can do both.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
YesReading books have been the major recipe to my overall personal and professional growth. Here are some great reads along with the skills they help develop:
1. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen R. Covey (Personal effectiveness, leadership)
2. Atomic Habits – James Clear (Habit formation, productivity)
3. The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle (Mindfulness, presence)
4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* – Mark Manson (Emotional intelligence, priorities)
5. The 5 AM Club – Robin Sharma (Morning routine, discipline)
6. Emotional Intelligence 2.0 – Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves (Emotional intelligence, self- awareness)
7. Rich Dad Poor Dad – Robert Kiyosaki (Financial literacy, wealth-building)
8. You Are a Badass at Making Money – Jen Sincero (Money mindset, confidence in earning)
9. How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie (Persuasion, networking)
10. The 48 Laws of Power – Robert Greene (Strategy, influence)
11.. You Are a Badass- Jen Sincero (Self-belief, overcoming fear)
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot countless times throughout my journey, but the most pivotal time in my career was when COVID-19 arrived. I’m originally from Nashville, TN, but late 2019 I took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta, GA to pursue a professional career in dance. I even quit my 9-5. I was blessed to move to a city where I was connected and opportunities were aligned for me to make somewhat of a living. COVID-19 came shortly after moving to Atlanta and impacted my finances, career, and mental well-being. There were no auditions, events, shows, tours, physical classes, etc. Everything became virtual. For most creatives this was a period of evolution and adaptation in which dancers/creatives created multiple streams of income through virtual classes and online coaching. Although I attempted to teach virtual classes, it was not for me. I’ve built my entire platform on physical and personal interaction. So to be forced in the total opposite direction hit me hard and honestly caused be to shutdown socially. I ended up meeting my partner right before COVID-19 and later that year got pregnant with my son, K’Eylis. In addition to taking a hit from COVID, I also had to recover from giving birth. Which took me many years in terms of my physical capability, mental health, and confidence.
