We were lucky to catch up with Gina Turner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have been making mixtapes since I was 4 years old recording songs on to cassette tapes from the radio and even including my own radio drops with a microphone, I always knew I wanted to be on the radio. So going to college for Audio/Radio was a no brainer. However there was a major shift in me when I moved to LA for my radio internship… I wanted to play what I wanted to play which was house music and thats when everything changed for me… I began to dj in nightclubs during such a special time in Los Angeles and Hollywood and the rest was history… I put my radio dreams to the side to focus on being creative and to play what i wanted!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been a dj/producer professionally since the 2010’s. I am known for being genre-fluid and a tastemaker, but also I am known for bridging the gap with the wellness/yoga space and the dance music space.
I was fortunate enough to find mentorship and support from some incredible figures in the industry, like DJ AM in my early dj days, which helped me build the foundation for my career.
I am all about creating a unique, energetic experience that brings people together through the universal language of music. Whether I’m DJing at a club, festival, or private event, I strive to offer something that transcends just the music itself. My sets are a journey — blending jacking house, tech, and elements of bass music with unexpected moments that captivate the audience and keep them engaged. As a producer, I’m focused on creating music that has depth and emotion, paired with infectious grooves that keep people moving.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to connecting with the crowd. It’s not just about playing tracks; it’s about reading the room, creating a vibe, and responding to the energy in real-time. I bring a mix of authenticity, experience, and a genuine love for what I do that’s felt every time I step behind the decks. As a woman in a male-dominated industry, I also take pride in being part of a movement that encourages diversity and empowers other women to pursue their passions in music.
I’m incredibly proud of the milestones I’ve achieved throughout my career. From playing some of the world’s biggest festivals to releasing original tracks that resonate with listeners, it’s been an amazing journey. Some of my proudest moments are being able to dj while pregnant with my two daughters and maintain a touring schedule after birth.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the belief that I needed a tough exterior to survive. In embracing a more vulnerable and honest space within myself, I found that I could create and DJ in a way that felt truer to who I am. Much of this transformation can be traced back to the path I discovered through training with A Society of Souls and Jason Shulman, as well as the support of my healers and therapists along the way. Life has brought its share of profound losses, and in response, I built up a protective armor to shield myself. While that armor served me in the past, the journey of unlearning its necessity has allowed me to step into a more authentic version of myself.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
What drives my creative process when djing and making music is being able to allow the listener/audience feel like they can be themselves unapologetically.
