S.B. The , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was younger I was into martial arts and sports. I started competing in tournaments when I was 7 as a martial artist and shortly after that I began playing on different sport teams.. I enjoyed being competitive, constantly growing and winning. It gave me a sense of self. One day I hurt my knee and everything changed. I was lost and had no idea what to do. I began rapping because I wanted to be happy and it was the only thing I really enjoyed. It also helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. Once I saw I was able to rap in front of crowds and get positive responses I realized how great it made me feel. I had found a new purpose and identity. In time I realized this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It also led to me dancing, acting, publishing a book, modeling and being a motivational speaker. Rapping literally changed my life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an international entertainer that has several skill sets. I’m an emcee, song writer, dancer, actor, model, poet, published author and motivational speaker. In addition to these I also host workshops for different things like financial literacy and martial arts. I don’t really have one lane that I stay in but I would say being an music artist is my main focus. I’ve been rapping since I was 13 and it’s what I love to do the most. I record and perform my music. As an emcee I’m in a duo with my DJ K Pryme. We are known as The Eyeconics. We have toured overseas and throughout the United States opening for Hip Hop legend KRS-ONE. Also, I’m a professional freestyle rapper under a group called Free Daps. We essentially travel the world freestyling rapping at colleges, theme parks, corporate events, parties and even libraries for children. As an author I have a book that you can purchase on all available platforms entitled “Words of an Anomaly” this poetry book is an easy read and it’s one of the few things that I’m very proud of. When I was younger over 20 people tattooed my lyrics and it inspires me to put the book out as a way of saying thank you for such a kind gesture. I was trained to dance more specifically pop by a man named Peter Arizmendi aka Bam Bam. He trained me for years and is the reason I can move the way I do. I also had the opportunity of being a part of groups like KR3Ts, 730 and Rhythm City in New York. I’ve always been around good mentors that helped me become who I am today. Martial Arts is something I’ve always done since I was 5 years old. Public speaking came from working with a group named Bartenderz in New York. Under the tutelage of Hassan “Giant” Yasin I learned how to hone my ability to connect with people using my words without rapping.. Everything else I do just came along in time naturally as I became more known.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There’s too many stories that would illustrate this so I would rather share some information that all artist and entrepreneurs need to be aware of. There were many times where I felt like quitting. Many instances transpired where I didn’t think I was good enough. I have cried, been broken, had no money and lacked the will to move forward. I share this because I need everyone to know that these moments are normal. In fact, you realize how bad you want your dreams to become real during these times. Embrace them and allow yourself to have time to grow. We tend to compare ourselves to other people. That’s isn’t healthy nor is it conducive to your success. We all have our own journeys and we need only not continue to push forward. Many people quit because they can’t see during the dark times. It is in these dark times where we must stop relying on our ability to see and allow our vision to guide us. The last thing I will share is don’t look to your friends and family for support. You don’t need friends to be rich. You just need strangers to support you. Our close ones usually don’t support and that’s normal.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love inspiring people. It feels good when someone’s tells me something I’ve said or done has motivated them to going moving forward. I feel we live in a world where many people have a passion or desire to do something outside of their job. The issue is many people don’t bet on themselves because of different things. One common reason is people don’t think they’re good enough. Insecurity is a common ground many of us walk on but we tend to think otherwise. Many people you look up to have insecurities just like you. They just chose to take control of their life. This is one of the reasons why being able to help someone get out of their heads make me happy. I know how it feels to be on both sides of that bridge.
