We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Archive Collective a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi The Archive, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The Archive Collective started with one idea—cultivate a space where young creatives could learn, express themselves, and build community. As creatives ourselves, we saw firsthand how hard it was to navigate artistic careers without mentorship or access to resources. We started by researching how to build a nonprofit, reaching out to mentors, and figuring out the logistics of setting up legally. With no initial funding, we leaned on our own skills, sharing creative tips, tapping into our community, and developing curriculum. Our advisor Phillip Karaya helped us officially register as a 501(c)(3) and always believed in our vision from the start. After that we planned the first annual Cloud 9ine Art Show where we showcased emerging artists and brought together over 100 community members. The response was overwhelming. People showed up, engaged, and wanted more.
From there, The Archive took off continually developing internally and outwardly making connections with the community. We have partnered with organizations like the Children’s Museum of Atlanta to create a mural for MLK Day, The 411 Brand to develop and instruct a 10 week Mass Media Program for teens, and many more plans for 2025. At every stage, we focused on taking action before everything was perfect—testing ideas, learning through experience, and refining our approach along the way. What started as a passion project has grown into a thriving creative hub, and we’re just getting started.
The Archive, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The Archive Collective Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of creatives by providing a safe space for artistic individuality and creative education. Founded in Atlanta, Georgia, The Archive was born from a shared passion for the arts and a deep commitment to fostering creative growth in young people.
Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to bridge the gap between aspiring creatives and the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to thrive. As creative professionals ourselves, we’ve witnessed the challenges faced by youth in accessing quality education and support in art, music, media, and fashion. This inspired us to create The Archive as a platform where young artists can explore their potential, connect with like-minded peers, and develop practical skills to build meaningful careers.
The Archive provides a variety of programs and services aimed at uplifting young creatives, including:
Creative Workshops and Panels: Hands-on experiences in photography, cinematography, music production, fashion design, and more.
Community Events: Showcases like the Cloud 9ine Art Show, where emerging artists can present their work to the public and gain visibility.
Mentorship Programs: Connecting youth with experienced professionals who guide and inspire them.
Educational Content: Tutorials, resources, and insights shared across platforms to enhance creative learning.
We address critical gaps in access to creative education and mentorship, particularly for young people who may lack resources or support. By providing tools, training, and opportunities, we help our participants overcome barriers, gain confidence in their abilities, and turn their creative passions into viable career paths.
The Archive stands out because of our holistic approach to creative empowerment. We don’t just teach skills—we cultivate a community where youth feel seen, heard, and inspired to pursue their dreams. Our emphasis on inclusivity, authenticity, and collaboration ensures that every participant can embrace their individuality and find their place in the creative world.
One of our proudest achievements is the success of our inaugural Cloud 9ine Art Show, which featured 20 talented artists and brought together over 100 community members. Seeing the impact of our programs on the lives of young creatives reaffirms our mission every day. From a student securing their first internship after a workshop to a mentor inspiring a room full of aspiring filmmakers, these moments of transformation drive everything we do.
The Archive Collective isn’t just an organization—it’s a movement. We believe in the power of creativity to transform lives and communities. Whether you’re a young artist seeking guidance, a professional looking to mentor, or a supporter who believes in the value of creative education, we invite you to join us in building a brighter future for the arts.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Cofounders Tell and Justin met on campus at Georgia State University. They crossed paths pursuing their own individual creative endeavors. Tell was a growing Youtube creator and film major while Justin was a new photographer and marketing major freshman year. They came together to develop The Archive after college when Tell shared his calling to guide the next generation of artists paired with Justin’s passion for entrepreneurship. After trial and error with the first workshops, The Archive Collective became a reality and full-fledged business plan.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
We have bootstrapped up to this year. Tell and Justin have come out of pocket to prove the importance of The Archive Mission. Whatever it takes; contributing time, resources, expertise, artistry, and cash has been a labor of love, and the spirit of direct community impact goes without saying. Fundraising is a major focus for the organization to maintain and increase the sustainability of our efforts. Our community and supporters can donate to us directly through our Give Butter portal to support art and career education for the youth and community events for the Atlanta art community.
