We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Thompson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always had a passion for helping businesses run smoothly. I worked in various management positions, including as a manager in an orthodontics office, and I spent many years trying to figure out how to break free from the 9-to-5 grind. When I was laid off, I was forced to take a hard look at what I truly wanted to do. My mom told me I needed to figure something out, and my best friend encouraged me to trust my abilities. At that time, I knew I wanted to help businesses because I’d always been the person who found solutions to their operational problems.
I started off as a virtual assistant, but I quickly realized I was bored with tasks like calendar management and email sorting. I craved more strategy and deep involvement in business operations. From there, I transitioned into executive assistant roles but still felt something was missing. It became clear to me that CEOs, particularly in the small business world, often lacked foundational operational support. They needed someone who could step in and provide real strategy—not just admin help.
That’s when I found my mentor, Bajal Palmer, who taught me about business process outsourcing, and that was a game-changer for me. I dove deeper into process analysis, gap analysis, and providing solutions for business owners on how to delegate tasks effectively. This led to me getting certified as an Online Business Manager (OBM) and transitioning into fractional COO services.
Now, I offer operations consulting to provide fractional COO work, OBM support, and executive assistant services. My business helps clients grow from needing just an assistant to requiring a full-scale, strategic operations partner.
What sets my company apart is that I offer a seamless transition for clients from one level of support to the next. Many business owners start with an assistant, but what they really need is a strategic partner who can help them grow. They often lack the operational foundation to scale efficiently, and I’ve built a process that helps them progress through this journey—from needing basic executive assistant support to ultimately requiring the guidance of a fractional COO. My company provides this entire progression of services, ensuring that as the business scales, so does the level of strategic support they receive. The problem that no one else is solving is this complete, long-term support that evolves alongside the business.
What excites me the most about this business is the ability to help clients grow step-by-step, and personally evolve with them. Instead of just offering one-time solutions or quick fixes, I provide a holistic, long-term strategy that covers all aspects of a business’s operations. The idea of taking a client from needing just a simple assistant to then requiring a strategic partner as they scale their business is incredibly exciting for me. It’s not only rewarding to see the impact of my work but also fulfilling to build that deep, trust-based relationship with business owners. My approach is unique because I offer consistent, scalable support as they grow, rather than only stepping in at one point. This means the client always has a partner they can rely on for strategic advice at every stage.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into my business after years of feeling unfulfilled in the corporate world. I had always worked in management roles, from retail to serving to managing an orthodontics office, but something was missing. I spent many years trying to figure out how to make money online, and after being laid off from my job, my mom and best friend pushed me to follow my gut and start my own business. Though I was afraid and didn’t know what I was doing at the time, I knew I wanted to help businesses, especially because I had a knack for supporting others and streamlining their operations. I started as a virtual assistant, but I quickly realized that I was bored. I wanted to dive deeper, so I moved into executive assistant services, but even then, it felt like something was still missing. I craved more strategy, more involvement in decision-making, and a bigger role in shaping a business’s direction.
Then, I found my mentor, Beejal Palmer, who taught me all about business process outsourcing, and I was hooked. I moved from being a business process outsourcing consultant to becoming certified as an online business manager and eventually transitioned into fractional COO work. My agency now offers fractional COO services, online business management support, and executive assistant services. What makes these services unique for coaches and course creators is that I understand the unique challenges they face, especially around streamlining operations and managing growth while maintaining their mission. I bridge the gap by helping them establish foundational systems, scale without the stress, and ultimately move from needing just an assistant to needing a strategic partner as their business grows.
The services I offer solve key problems such as improving operational efficiency, creating processes for scalability, and allowing coaches and course creators to focus on their areas of expertise without getting overwhelmed by the backend of their businesses. Whether it’s handling client management, streamlining internal systems, or offering high-level strategic guidance, I’m there to make sure every part of the business runs smoothly so my clients can grow with confidence. My approach is different because I build trust and long-term relationships with my clients, starting with executive assistant services and scaling to fractional COO work as their needs evolve. I support them through every step of their journey, ensuring they have the tools and guidance to grow successfully.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to help business owners transform their operations and achieve their goals. I’ve seen clients go from struggling with inefficiencies to running profitable, streamlined businesses. The ability to make such a tangible difference in their lives and businesses is something I’m truly proud of. When it comes to my brand, I want potential clients and followers to know that I’m not just a service provider; I’m a long-term partner who’s dedicated to their success. If you’re a coach or course creator feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of running your business, my services are designed to take that burden off your shoulders so you can do what you do best. I provide the operational support and strategy that allow you to scale with confidence, making the business side of things run like clockwork so you can focus on growing your impact.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A key lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that fear was something to avoid or hold me back. I’ve learned to use fear as a tool for growth rather than a barrier to success. When I first started my business, fear would often manifest as self-doubt and hesitation. I worried about whether I had the right skills, if people would pay for my services, and whether I was making the right moves. But as I progressed, I realized that fear doesn’t have to be a weakness – it can fuel strength.
Instead of allowing fear to keep me stuck in a loop of overthinking and playing small, I decided to use it as a driving force. When I felt fear, I understood it meant I was stepping into new territory, growing, and challenging myself. So, I started embracing fear as a weapon, flipping it to my advantage. I took risks, trusted my instincts, and didn’t let the “what ifs” paralyze me. I learned to navigate through uncertainty and trust in my capabilities. Today, my fear is no longer a tool that holds me back – it’s what pushes me to take the next big leap.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation within my market is being reliable and having systems in place that demonstrate my true passion for what I do. Over the years, I’ve built trust with clients by being consistent in my delivery and ensuring I always provide exceptional service. My focus on systems, processes, and organizational efficiency speaks volumes about my commitment to quality, which ultimately helped me grow my reputation. When clients see how structured and streamlined their business becomes, they know it’s because I genuinely care about helping them succeed. This reliability, paired with my love for operations, makes all the difference.
