Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Chanel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dr. Chanel, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Great question, actually it wasn’t in the thick of my career now, when the moment of solidification was established. It was when I was still an employee, giving advice to the employer, on what I thought would be best for the needs of the business, and that’s when I knew that Leadership, and my passion to help someone else, became defined.
Since we have last connected, I have lost my grandmother. If anyone knows me, then you know I’m devastated. To say that she and I were close, is an understatement. This interview is dedicated to her. She was the first person next to my mother that every idea I had, she helped me green light them all. Thank you for sharing the pic of her and my kids and mom from my first book signing here in Atlanta. I love and miss her so much.
Dr. Chanel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Welp, I am not one to discuss myself much, as I’ve stated in other interviews, I recently had an interview on Apple Music and iHeart Radio and Spotify, and I said the same thing. Lol. So this is the same. I’m a simple gal, hailing from none other than the Eastside of Detroit Michigan. Born and raised. I’m a mom of 2 beautiful boys. Well, they aren’t babies anymore, but that’ll never change in my book. I’ve got a teenager and a pre-teen. Time is moving along quite nicely, and that’s scary. Lol.
It’s no secret now, I have set forth a foundation of leadership within the special needs community here in Atlanta, and I work so diligent in making sure that everyone around, both near and far feel loved and cared for. I believe that all children, should feel safe with an adult, no matter if they are related or not. My motto is just that. I take care of ALL children that are around me. So I took a chance and bet on myself, and met with a group of dynamic friends who too were in law school as I was at the time, and we began this quest into advocating and helping families with simple self-alignment of themselves first, before they can truly and honesty help their loved one(s). As a spectrum mom, I stand proud in knowing that our community is afraid of the unknown. They aren’t cognizant, of the joys this could bring to their loved one, once they’ve accepted how things must go, that’s when their life’s journey WILL change. No matter how much training and schooling that I’ve had, had I not been prepared and receptive mentally, it would all be nullified and voided. So I’m grateful for the journey. The best teacher is one with experience, and man I have that. I am in constant training daily in my own life. I’m so grateful. Life is the best teacher. So grab your notebook, and a pen!
I have recently completed Seminary School recently with Candler, earning another Doctorate in Divinity and Ministry Leadership. I was told as a child, there’s something different about me. I didn’t want to acknowledge it as a young woman, I just knew I was different. Everything that everyone else was doing, I did the opposite always. The oil fell upon my life early, and I ran as long as I could until I couldn’t. Lol. Grateful to be one of God’s chosen ones. And I must say that with this walk, I’ve learned where I don’t fit it in, who deserves an apology, and who deserves my silence. There is a distinct #Godfidence that you must embody. It takes courage to be disliked, and I’m seasoned in the doubters. Ha! but I’ll always stand for what’s right. #Discernment will show me things about scenarios and I just marvel in what I am shown. Be careful what you ask God for in supplication. In all of our asking, asking for the capacity to receive the blessings that you may receive, is key. After all, you don’t want to mishandle what you prayed for.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I am glad that I have had multiple previous careers, I mean honestly. Those other fields had culminated and perfected other areas of my craft. So as my customer service. I always tell folks, you’re either born with it, or you aren’t: and I am blessed to say that I have that in the bag.
I wouldn’t change a thing. There’s a positive nod from me that indicates; if you ever wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans. He already knows it all! So just stop trying to skip the parts and chapters of your life that makes you who you are.
I wouldn’t change a thing. When you love what you do, and I truly do, which is helping others. You’ll never have to work a day in your life. #Passion fuels your #Purpose.

Actually, I love what I do! I wish I would have persued it earlier. Don’t get me wrong, while I’ve been blessed to have almost 26 years in customer service and a plethora of other fields, I always say our lives begin when we find our life’s purpose. I’m glad I’ve come to know, and find out that mine is to be of good service, to others in all walks of life in this lifetime.
I’d choose Childhood Development, Law and Behavioral Health time after time. Just call me the Spectrum Whisperer :)
