We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mary Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mary below.
Mary, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to give those who may feel they don’t have a voice a platform to share their stories. As someone who has always been an introvert, I know how difficult it is to share what’s important into the world. And in this world where we are constantly inundated with information, it’s a lot of work to stand out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our brand is our actual life. A Tiny Homestead LLC is a farm to table enterprise. Under our umbrella is a summer garden producing vegetables we sell from our on-property farmstand, and at the local farmers market. We also sell eggs from our chickens.
We make and sell soaps, candles, lip balms, etc. And we sell baked goods like granola, cookies, and breads.
The podcast was born out of wanting to share other people’s stories who are doing the same things, only differently.
My favorite story is the woman who bought 15 lip balms from us. I asked her if she was getting prepared to give them as stocking stuffers, and and she said, “No! You’re lip balms are the only ones I’ve ever used that I don’t have an allergic reaction to.” It warmed my heart to know our product actually helped someone.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I always thought if I can do it, anyone can do it. Which lead to the mindset of “Why bother?” I’ve learned that no one can do it the way I do it.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my husband. I met him years ago at a campground. We were friends for quite a few years before we got together. The one thing I would say is if you’re going to work with your spouse, you really have to be patient, respect and communicate clearly with each other.
