We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evan Slaughter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evan below.
Alright, Evan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
I donate 10% of my monthly earnings to a non-profit men’s drug and alcohol rehab because it is the rehab that I went to in 2021 that helped save my life.

Evan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Whenever I got out of rehab in 2021, I had a renewed outlook on life. I wanted to pursue life and live in my purpose. I have always been passionate about comedy. I love to make people laugh. I started making tik tok videos in early 2022 and after a few months of posting I finally started to gain traction and have a few videos go viral. I started making videos around things I was doing in life like pickleball (which I had recently learned in rehab) and fitness. After getting out of rehab, I started to find comfort in food and I gained 95lbs. Even tho I had gained a bunch of weight, I was still the most mentally healthy I have been in my life. I didn’t let how I look define how I viewed myself. I knew I needed to lose weight but I wanted to do that because of love for myself, not because of how I felt when people looked at me. I shared my journey with weightloss openly and honestly while making people laugh along the way. From this, I started getting a bunch of messages from people saying how much I have helped them with their own fitness struggles. I started working with a lot of brands in the fitness and pickleball space and have been doing social media full time for about 2.5 years. I try my best to always remain open and honest and authentic while reaching people with comedy.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I always suggest to people to just be open and authentic and post what you’re passionate about and what you know best. Find a way to share your knowledge in a different way than what others are already doing. Make it your own. I also like watching content and figuring out what I like and what does well and then replicating that in a way that fits your voice and your style. Make it your own.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I never give up. I may not do things right a lot but I refuse to quit and I’m always open to learn. In 2011, I deployed with my unit in the Army to Spin Boldak, Afghanistan. Within the first month I had been injured in combat. I was the gunner of the lead truck of our convoy that struck an IED. I was very fortunate to not be gravely injured. I was given the option to leave combat and go have surgery on my ankle or o could stay in Afghanistan and recover without surgery. I chose to stay and do the entire 12 month deployment rather than leave. I wanted to be there. I was given pain meds which ultimately led me back to an opiate addiction which I had struggled with previously in my life. It took several years after I got out of the military to finally get sober from opiates, but no matter what I went through, I refused to give up. I always want to correct my mistakes and do the best I can at starting over and learning from my mistakes. It’s better to start over than it is to continue down the wrong path.
