We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kinga Brassay. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kinga below.
Alright, Kinga thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Art and creativity have always been at the core of my life. From book illustrations to costume design for theatre plays, nearly every job I’ve taken has been tied to artistic expression. But along the way, I faced both small and significant detours – moments where I strayed from my creative path, often due to external pressures to pursue a career deemed ‘more real’ than art. Looking back, I wish those detours hadn’t happened. If I had fully embraced my creativity as a career earlier, I believe I would be much further along today.
Though I faced pressure to pursue a ‘real job,’ life continuously reminded me that I can’t be without art for long – it’s not just what I do; it’s who I am. I become burned out when creativity isn’t present in my life. Over time, it became my mission to prove that making a living through art is not only possible but essential for those who are truly called to it. This is the same message I share with my art students, encouraging them to stay true to their calling, because the world needs creatives just as much as it needs doctors and lawyers.
Creativity isn’t just a side pursuit or an extravagance – it’s a way of life. It’s who I am, how I think, and what I do. That’s why I choose to embrace it fully, as it’s what I was always meant to do.

Kinga, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may not have heard of me before, I’m Kinga Brassay—a visual artist, designer, and art educator based in Canada. Originally from Europe with Hungarian nationality, I now call Canada home. Growing up in a family of professional artists, including my parents and grandparents, instilled in me a lifelong passion for creativity and visual storytelling. This foundation was further shaped by the mentorship of renowned artists during my studies, whose guidance refined my ability to express emotional depth through abstract forms. These experiences fuel my commitment to creating art that challenges perceptions and celebrates imperfection as part of the human story.
My journey with art began at a young age, and over the years, I have explored various creative disciplines, from multiple book illustrations and costume design to interior design and fine art. Despite occasional detours, creativity has always been my guiding force. Today, I focus on creating large-scale, high-end abstract paintings that capture human emotions and elevate interiors.
Through my brand, BrassayArt, I provide original fine art tailored for art collectors, interior designers, and those who seek to enrich their spaces with meaning. My work is not just about aesthetics—it’s about evoking emotion, making a statement, and creating a deep, personal connection between the artwork and its viewer. I am also passionate about sharing my knowledge through art education, helping aspiring artists embrace their creative potential.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge art with interior design, ensuring that each painting becomes a conversation piece that transforms a space. My passion for both art and interiors has led me to work on numerous commercial and residential projects, from bistros to chain stores. One of my earliest and most defining projects was opening my own clothing store more than 20 years ago, where I designed the entire interior. On opening day, people lined up outside, eager to know who the designer was. From that moment, one project led to another, solidifying my path in the world of design.
I have an inner drive to make everything around me beautiful. I cannot stand a blank wall – it calls out to be transformed, to gain character and presence. This is the essence of my work: to create art that tells a story, leaves a lasting impression, and shapes timeless spaces that inspire.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a desire to connect deeply with people through art. I believe that art has the power to evoke emotion, challenge perceptions, and inspire change. My mission is to create works that not only beautify spaces but also resonate on a personal level with those who experience them. Whether through abstract paintings or design, I aim to transform spaces into places where people can connect emotionally and reflect. Ultimately, I want my art to be a conversation starter, a reminder that creativity is a force that shapes our world and our hearts. My goal is to prove that creativity is not just a profession but a way of living – one that speaks to the soul and enriches the human experience.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining and resilient moments in my life was when I began gaining recognition in my hometown of Târgu Mureș, where I was born. My work was being featured in magazines and television shows, and my career began to flourish, with book illustrations and a series of commercial projects following one after the other. Yet, I made the bold decision to move overseas to an entirely different continent, to Canada. Many questioned my choice, wondering why I would leave just as my career was taking off. But I was driven by curiosity – a desire to see what I could achieve in a new environment. My only goal was to continue pursuing art in some form, no matter where I was in the world.
