Shiloh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I think we are all wanting to help others and because there isn’t much “hard costs” behind us that we need to base profitability on, it’s all subjective to what we feel we should be paid.

Shiloh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a wedding planner and started my business after a couple of friends hosted bridal and baby showers with me and commented multiple times about how organized I was. After coordinating one wedding for a friend, I was hooked! I graduated with a degree in Natural Science and went to college to become a Physical Therapist and worked in the field for a few years before changing to Internal Medicine, where I was pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. Life took over and pre-reqs expired so that went on the back burner while I had and raised my 2 kids for a few years.
Having a background in healthcare provides me with an ability to think on my feet and stay calm in stressful situations on wedding days that many others have difficulty with.
I am very proud of having consistent 5 star reviews, being published in national blogs and a local wedding magazine. My business is purely referral based, which is pretty amazing as well.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I attended a 3 day conference in my second year in business called Wedding MBA, which was a game changer for me. I found so many planners turned educators, which opened the door to more educators to learn from. Hearing stories from those who were in it, who were sharing their experiences, was huge. I also connected with other planners and wedding pros, which helped my confidence and helped widen my network back at home. Those connections made have severely helped me expand my horizons, experience and client base.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being a team player, detailed and communicative has helped get me where I am. Hearing on a consistent basis that I’m not like other planners shows me that being cool on a wedding day, along with a detailed process and timeline ahead of time, has placed me where I am in this market.
