We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katie Webb Brundige. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katie below.
Katie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Absolutely! Giving back is woven into our business model and is truly the foundation of who we are. Every event we produce, every social media client we support, and every service booked with Intertwined Inc. directly contributes to RAD Camp, a nonprofit my business partner, Meghan Clem, and I founded to provide transformative camp experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities.
What began as our shared passion for creating inclusive experiences for campers, life-changing opportunities for volunteers, and essential respite for caregivers has since grown into California’s largest overnight camp serving this incredible community. This year, we are adding our first ever third session of camp, a testament to the need for the respite, care and experience we provide!
For us, RAD is more than a name—it’s a mission. We are dedicated to helping individuals Rise Above Disabilities by challenging the barriers of diagnosis, labels, and perceptions. My personal journey of living RAD has also led me to parent two remarkable boys with special needs, deepening my commitment to ensuring that spaces like RAD Camp continue to thrive. This work is an extension of our core values—just as we strive to create meaningful experiences through our hospitality and marketing efforts, we are equally devoted to making a lasting impact through RAD Camp.
Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Intertwined Inc. was founded in 2009 from the floor of my apartment, focusing first on our passions of social media management and corporate event planning. What began as a small company quickly grew into something much bigger, and today, we operate a full-scale hospitality collection that employs 24 women and serves over 1,000 clients across various services.
From the beginning, we always wanted our culture and people to set us apart. We’re a woman-owned, woman-run business that thrives on collaboration, creativity, and innovation. We truly believe each one of our team members brings unique talents and perspectives to everything we do. And we’re constantly evolving– our recent launch of RESERVE by Intertwined, a room-blocking service for event professionals, is just one example of how we push boundaries and create more value for our clients.
In 2024, we organized 142 events across weddings, corporate and non-profit events while simultaneously managing 62 social media accounts AND celebrating our 15th anniversary! As for RAD Camp, we celebrated one decade of service, serving more campers than ever before, even getting 14 off our very long waitlist!
Every aspect of our journey focuses on creating something meaningful, whether it’s the hospitality services we provide or the community we’ve fostered. We’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished so far, and we’re even more excited for what’s to come.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Meghan and I first met in high school when I was 17, volunteering together at a special needs summer camp. That experience was life-changing for both of us, and years later, we became Directors of that very camp—an opportunity that ultimately inspired us to found RAD Camp.
Through college and beyond, we remained close, and in 2009, when Meghan was laid off during the recession, she approached me about starting a business. We knew we had the right mix of passion and skills, so we took a leap of faith.
We started small, focusing on social media and corporate events. It was an unconventional beginning, but in hindsight, it was the ideal foundation for growth. What started as a simple idea evolved into a full-scale hospitality business—one that not only fuels our entrepreneurial spirit but also allows us to make a meaningful impact by combining passion with purpose.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We believe success starts with creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered. Our company thrives because of our team, and as a small business, we prioritize giving each person the freedom to grow, lead, and celebrate their achievements—whether it’s securing a new client, earning a promotion, or marking personal milestones like birthdays or new additions to their family; these moments foster appreciation, keep morale high, and reinforce the culture we’ve built.
When it comes to hiring, we focus on the person first. We look for individuals who are the right fit for Intertwined—then we teach the skills and responsibilities needed for their role. This approach ensures clear communication, trust, and alignment with our vision, making each team member feel proud of their contributions and motivated to give their best every day.
This would be my best advice to other business owners, too! Hire the people who make your culture what you want it to be, and the rest will come.
