We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fredrik Keith Croona a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fredrik, thanks for joining us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
I’ve had two really good bosses during my 20 years as a chef. The first one always showed kindness and appreciation towards all of us who worked under her.
Always stepping up to help if needed be , never bothered to get her hands dirty.
She always got us xmas gifts , midsummer food amongst other things. She was a real gem and I will always hold her in high regards.
The second one is my current boss, he might be plump and don’t pull any punches. But he knows that we work hard to deliver and he always gives us small things to show that he values the work we do.
Fredrik, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
First and foremost I’m a professional chef since 20 years ago. Second I’m a musician dabbling amongst everything from metal to synthwave music.
I am most proud of being able to go to work and constantly do what I love doing which is cooking food.
And when I get home , I’m proud to be able to work on music together with my awesome band mates . It’s a blessing to be able to do things you love doing .
Sometimes you kinda feel like a super hero , day time I’m a chef and night time I’m a rock star (just kidding) . Both things are a big part of my life and without my bands Against I , Terrorbit and Duo Later , I’m not sure what i’d be doing.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Nothing has ever been easy in either of my jobs. When I was a young chef , I didn’t really focus too much in school and ended up having to really work myself up to where I am today.
If I had paid more attention in school and showed more interest in learning , then maybe my journey would’ve been different?
Same could of course be said about music. I started out as a novice vocalist around the same time I studied to become a chef.
The older I’ve got the more I’ve learned in both cooking and how to make music myself. From being cocky and thinking I knew everything , till becoming a bit more humble and having to work hard to get what you want.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In terms of cooking , it’s just being a good chef and always strive to deliver the best possible food you can make. Work hard and do that little extra so people will appriciate you more.
With music , its about being open minded and reach out to others who might also be musicians themselves or people who just enjoy the genre of music that you are making. be kind and social, it can really help you a lot
