We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matthew Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matthew below.
Matthew, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
I truly believe that most people don’t really want to do the work. That’s in both my industry and in general. I think they disagree with putting in the work, doing the research, and all they want is microwavablemicrowabale success. But what they don’t understand that success does not work like that for everyone. But what you must understand is that if you want something to last, take your time, you want something quick go fast.

Matthew, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Matthew Jackson, known for my beautiful, timeless, unconventional pieces. I started designing back in 2008 where my heart was full making these beautiful pieces for unconventional women. Emigee Skyn started off in 2016 in my kitchen as I was just chasing my own skincare goals and wanting too to achieve healthy, clean, glowing skin naturally. I have used so many over-the-counter products and I found that it actually was doing my skin more harm than good with all of the chemicals and ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce.
Fast forward to 2020 Emigee New York was pleased to introduce you to “Emigee Skyn”. A new luxury skincare line that works for all skin types. For me, creating this collection wasn’t just about fun and my own skincare problems. I wanted to create a vibe, a luxury experience, and skincare rituals that leaves your skin feeling clean, glowing, and smooth.
I wanted to create a luxury brand that resonated with my culture, I am pretty sure that someone out there is just like me spending money on over the counter skincare products because they seen it on a commercial, or because so and so makes it but they know deep down inside the products are not working for them, but because they spent the money on them they keep using them. My roots led me to take a more natural approach, and that’s what sets Emigee Skyn apart from other skincare brands. Keeping in mind we are not selling you just anything, our luxury products helps promote healthy, glowing skin.
For me fashion and beauty was two things that went hand in hadn’t with me day to day routine. I couldn’t leave the house looking any kind of way. I was raised that your face must be washed and moisturized and you must be well put together at all times. I also was fascinated with the super models in the fashion magazines and the award shows for the fashions and the beauty.
We have also launched Emigee Cosmetics, as I mentioned the Emigee New York brand continues to expand.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
So as I mentioned Emigee New York was created back in 2008 sketching, designing prom and special event gowns under Emigee Couture, see the name change? (Pivot). In 2011 I knew that for those past three years I was boxing myself in to a world that I wanted to expand from. So Late 2011 we revamped the brand as Emigee New York, and started to create dresses, not just any dresses. I’m talking about this is the Era when partying and looking better than who ever invited you to the party was a thing. Thats where the word unconventional kicks in because that what my dresses are. one of a kind, wild, out of the box. Moving from The big apple ( NYC) to Florida things were different, trends were different. Florida being a little behind and hard to catch up I felt stuck trying to introduce my brand and style here but I kept going, because I am a firm believer in if you build it they will come. I always knew that I wanted to expand the Emigee New York brand, the question was how to do that not living in the city where resources are limited and the city of creative was at my fingertips. I had to find creatives here and work with what I had. I was burned here in Florida, by photographers, stylist. I was hurt, but I kept going. Fast forward we now have a sister brand Emigee Skyn. Sometimes we have to go through certain things to see that we are filled with creativity and endless possibilities. I know some people think they pivoting means that they have failed, that is not the case pivot means you are winning. It may. not seem like so but when you have the plan, the vision, and apply the work you can pivot a thousand times and still succeed.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built any audience by building a community organically. I say organically because now and days everyone wants to look like they have an audience instead of actually having one which is so confusing because it hurts you in the long run. I remember when ‘I was started the business we didn’t have all of the social media platforms. I had facebook, twitter, my website, a blog, local, college fashion shows, and word of mouth. Building connections, and handing out my business cards was how I built in those days. Now that I have expanded the brand in a new era, promotion, building and keeping your community is not ha4rd to do. We have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and so many other platforms. Paying for followers (Bots) won’t get you to the top faster, it actually slows you down, get you shadow banned. I will say engagement is key, stay present on your social media platforms. Engage with your followers, post meaningful content, answer the questions your followers leave in your DM’s or under comments. If you feel you can’t or don’t know how to or have the time, you can get social media interns, or if you can afford to pay one by all. means take that route as well. Overall just build your audience organically, get out in your community, connect with influencers, ask for customer/client feedback use that as leverage.
