We recently connected with Kevin Twitty and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kevin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
The most valuable lesson I learned was in my interior design studio class my freshman year of college. We had been working on a project for weeks our teacher assigned to us. She said to design a room for her, sky was the limit. We all picked various styles and began our work. One day during class she came around to everyone’s desk and completely tore apart all of our projects saying we needed to start over. We were all in shock because we had been doing the work we thought were were suppose to do. When we asked our professor why, she replied, “none of you asked why I wanted.”
It was in that moment I realized that it was not my job to pick a style for my clients. It is my job to get to know my clients, ask questions, and design a space that they will love and enjoy.

Kevin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I became an interior designer through a mix of natural talent, hard work, and a deep passion for design. My journey wasn’t exactly conventional, but it was shaped by my experiences, interests, and diverse skills.
I originally started my career in the entertainment industry, but over time, I realized that my true love was creating beautiful, functional spaces. I found joy in designing environments that combined comfort with style. It was this passion that led me to make the shift to interior design.
As I pursued this new path, I had the opportunity to work with major design firms, which helped me gain exposure and experience. My work often blends classic elements with modern aesthetics, which reflects my personal style and the needs of my clients. I’ve always believed in how design can enhance people’s lives, and I take pride in adapting to different styles—whether it’s traditional or contemporary.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I like to take a three pronged approach.
First, word of mouth. This is the best and most effective way to grow clientele.
Second, traditional marketing, such as, google reviews, social media, magazines, news, and etc.
Lastly, validation sources. These would be partnering with builders for model homes, submitting and winning design awards, and bringing brand awareness through public speaking/

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew I didn’t have to do it all. Having other people as a resource around it is invaluable. I am able to do so much more now that I have learned to let it go and let others help.
