We recently connected with Chitra Rochlani and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chitra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents moved to Dubai from India for better opportunities when I was 2 or 3 years old. They were middle-class people trying hard to provide the best for their three kids. Trying to adjust to a new country and its ways, my Dad worked hard at his job, and my mother stayed home to take care of us.
My mother was my first glimpse into the world of a warrior mindset. I call her my OG warrior, and I am still amazed at the attitude of optimism and abundance she carried with her despite not having held a paying job all her life.
She taught us a few principles that I hold dear to this day.
1. Everything happens for a reason.
This was one of her go-to mantras. I would ask her why the vase broke, and she would say, “So I can buy a new one!”
2. Abundance:
She believed in abundance even though she never earned a paycheck once in her life.
We would be out shopping and when it was time to pay the cab driver, she would open an empty wallet to pay him. We would panic but she would say, “Don’t worry, I’m sure there is something in there” and dig deep to find just enough to cover for the cab.
3. Gratitude:
She had a positive spin on everything. If I complained, that I was hurting, she would say, “You’re not hurting, your leg is hurting. You are fine. Be grateful.
Her positive twist on everything was extremely annoying as a teenager, but her messages became ingrained in my mind, When I went off to college, I began to see the benefits of her voice in my head, especially when things got hard. Her beliefs ignited a love of all things mindset in me. She is not perfect by any means, but her mindset inspired my love for personal growth, psychology, and studying different people and philosophies from the perspective of the mindset.
When I look back, I realize the impact she made on me, and I am so grateful that she inspired me to embark on this journey as an author, speaker, and coach.
Chitra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur, and empowerment has been at the center of all my businesses. I began as a photographer trying to bring out the best in people and empowering them to love their smiles. I found myself constantly speaking to the mindset of my clients, trying to empower them to see their beauty beyond a pretty face, body, clothes, makeup, jewelry, etc.
A few years later, I went through a personal health transformation, gaining a deep understanding of nutrition, fitness, and mindset. I realized that not enough people were talking about the science of nutrition and fitness and more importantly the role of mindset behind health and wellness. So, I shifted gears to become a certified personal trainer and a nutrition coach to learn more and educate my clients. In this role, I empowered my clients to understand how nutrition impacts their bodies and how good form is crucial to safe exercise and great results. And every day that I worked with them, I found that we spoke of mindset above everything else.
I did workshops on mindset, nutrition, and exercise and loved the process of educating people and empowering them to gain a deeper understanding of how things work in the mind and in the body.
I realized the impact our mindset has on our thoughts, words, and actions, and eventually, our results. The more I dug deep into the mindset, the more clear, calm, and confident I became. This led me to embrace a level of alignment I had never experienced before and gave me the courage to share a secret I had been hiding from the world for 20+ years.
I went on Facebook and did a small post, telling my friends that I had been a medium and intuitive healer for 20+ years, and now that I was embracing myself fully, I was coming out of my “spiritual” closet.
Once I hit submit on the post, I was convinced that I would lose a bulk of my friends, but instead, I got over 200 comments applauding my courage for being authentic and wanting to learn more about this gift I had. I talked about how my intuition had led me to sharing this truth and how liberating it felt to put it out there.
A friend suggested I start doing energy readings, so I did. I didn’t market myself much, but the interest kept growing, so along with my wellness coaching I added intuitive readings to my offerings.
I wanted everyone to experience the power of their inner wisdom, so I began to create systems, frameworks, and talks on how decluttering the mind is the first step to accessing our intuition (our inner wisdom). When we combine our love for logic and intellect with intuition, we begin to experience a state of calm, clarity, and confidence that is unshakeable.
Personally, this intuitive guidance led me to write my first book, The Warrior Mindset: 7 Mindset Shifts to Unleash Your Inner Warrior, and get into the professional speaking world.
My clients come to me because they need to get unstuck or get out of their own way, but they don’t quite know how to do that. They need help in finding calm, clarity, and confidence in their daily life. They are tired of living life on other people’s terms and know they deserve to feel better, inside and out.
Since 2022, I have been hired by event planners to speak at conferences, give keynotes, and facilitate workshops on topics like:
1. Hurry Up Inner Peace, I Don’t Have All Day
2. Tame your inner Critic, Unleash Your Inner Warrior
3. Calm, Clear, and Confident: Using The Warrior Mindset
4. Manifest using my 5-step S.M.I.L.E. framework.
Today, I work with my clients in 1:1 settings as well as groups to help them:
– Declutter their minds using my 3 A’s framework
– Get calm, clear, and confident in their choices
– Show them how to access their intuition
– Attract (not chase after) the life of their dreams
Truth is, we are all chasing after an idea of success that has been passed down to us over generations without questioning it and we find ourselves lost, confused, and frustrated. As a result, we are out of alignment with our truth and feeling lost and disconnected more than ever.
One of my favorite quotes by Pablo Picasso is,
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
I’d like to think that I help people find their gift by way of decluttering their minds and getting aligned in their thoughts, words, and actions.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that to have success in any field we need two things to work together before we take any action:
1. Aligned Energy
Let’s talk about energy first. Anytime we enter a room, our energy speaks much louder than our words will. If we or filled with doubt, fear, worry or insecurity, that reflects in our energy. People respond to our energy and not our words. We could go in with the most firm handshake and share the most well-rehearsed elevator pitch, but if it is not aligned with our truth, we won’t connect with the crowd. So it is important to work on our energy and align our inner world with our outer efforts. Most of this work is inner work and begins with a deep dive into the mindset and leads to a level of ease and flow that takes away our fears, worries, doubts, and insecurities.
2. Inspired Action
We spend so much time hustling for the next goal, and as a result, we are heading into high stress and burnout. However, if we work on decluttering the mind, we gain immense clarity and make room for intuition to step in. Now, all we have to do is take inspired action and enjoy the benefits of this alignment. We begin to attract people and opportunities that lead us to where we need to go and manifest success with a sense of ease and flow.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Story Brand by Donald Miller, The Red Thread by Tamsen Webster, The Referrable Speaker by Michael Port are some books that have helped me gain clarity on my expertise and given me the ability to share my knowledge in a way that speaks to the needs of my clients.
