We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Grosvenor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I feel like my whole adult life from the age on 25 onwards has revolved around taking risks in pursuit of the life I wanted to create. In 2014, I quit my job in steel construction, bought a plane ticket, packed anything I needed into a carry on bag and flew across the world to the US. I had never been to the US, nor did I know anyone here, but I was determined to create a something magical. What was intended to be 2 years of working abroad turned into a life altering adventure. I worked, I travelled to places I only ever dreamed about, I made friends who became family and found my passion & purpose in this life. In 2018 I went back to school part time to study nutrition & functional medicine. At the time I had a very well paying job that allowed me to travel extensively but I was unfulfilled. I wanted to actively be making this world a better place through my work, not hurting it. Once again I decided to step away from a very lucrative contract & instead chose to open up my own online practice. I was ‘fortunate in my timing’ in the sense that we had just begun to feel the life altering effects of the C19 pandemic & the world was becoming more receptive to online consultations. It is now the norm but back then it wasn’t, the world was shifting! Since then, I have taken many risks & established multiple businesses, but it was these 2 that set the stage for everything I have & everything I do now. They were major catalysts for my growth, my confidence & the vision I have now regarding what I want to create in this world. It was most certainly scary & risky at the time, with a million and 1 reasons NOT to do it but I am grateful that I found the courage to say YES to myself & turning my dreams into reality.
Stephanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Like many in the holistic wellness space, I found myself here after overcoming my own 15 year battle with health problems. Tick borne infections, chronic inflammation, IBS, chronic fatigue, Hashimoto’s, acne & obesity – you name it I had it! After feeling failed by the conventional medical system, with a growing list of symptoms & unanswered questions, I took matters into my own hands and read everything I could about health & how the human body works. This is when I discovered functional medicine & the importance of gut health. It took 3 years of trail & error, making mistakes and learning as I go but through food, lifestyle change & nutraceuticals, I was able to heal my gut, get rid of my symptoms and gain a new quality of life I never had before. A life of energy, excitement & vitality.
When you know and understand something that can fix a lot of the unnecessary suffering you see around you, you can’t sit back quietly & not do anything about it. This is what lead me to go back to school & get qualified in holistic nutrition & functional medicine health coaching. I specifically chose coaching as this was the missing piece for me on my healing journey – the guidance, support & accountability. I wanted to fill that gap for other people.
I now specialize in helping adults overcome IBS and other digestive issues so they too can live energetic, fulfilling & symptom free lives. I offer 6 month private coaching packages as well as a monthly wellness membership, ‘The Health Mastery Academy’. This is the perfect place if you’re looking for an affordable way to simplify health, be in a like minded community, & get results weeks after week.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
From a business standpoint - Relationships & Collaborations are keys to success in any field. Build relationships with your clients, your audience, your followers and your colleagues – you never know where this may lead. Strong relationships keep you front of mind and build trust. Collaborations are an amazing way to expand your reach. These can be in the form of online workshops & summits, or in the form of in person events. Collaborations also build credibility when done right.
From a client results standpoint - Personal experience. One of the biggest reasons why my clients see results time after time is because I have been where they are. I have lived through the pain, the symptoms, the everyday struggles that come with having an unhealthy body. I have made the mistakes but I have also found the solutions. Simplicity & consistence is the key.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
100% I would. The early years of building a business are hard. They challenge you every single day. You are constantly learning, unlearning & relearning. You question yourself, your choices and your business. There were a couple times when I thought maybe I should step away from coaching to focus on my other wellness businesses but each time this seed was planted, it’s like God, the universe, whatever you relate to – would throw a mountain of signs at me to say, ”Don’t you dare. You are doing exactly what you are mean to be doing”. These would come in the form of a heartfelt message form a client, lab results showing full reversal of their autoimmune condition, 5 new people jumping into my membership within a few hours, or an invite to speak on a prominent stage about the power of nutrition & coaching to transform your health. The signs were many!
Working with clients, hearing their wins, and witnessing first hand how their confidence grows, they joy returns, their lives uplevel – There are no words to describe that feeling. The closest I can think of is gratitude.
There is no job in the world I’d rather do.
