Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hyacinth Tucker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hyacinth, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
Thank you for the opportunity to share a meaningful customer success story. At The Laundry Basket LLC, we pride ourselves on making a real impact, not just through clean clothes but through service that truly changes lives.
One story that stands out involves a single mother in Baltimore who was struggling to keep up with her daily responsibilities. She worked multiple jobs while raising three young children, and laundry became an overwhelming burden. She reached out to us, explaining how difficult it was to manage everything, especially when her apartment’s washer and dryer broke down.
We stepped in and offered a customized laundry service plan that fit her schedule and budget. We picked up her family’s laundry weekly, ensuring everything was properly cleaned, folded, and returned on time. But we didn’t stop there. After learning more about her challenges, we connected her with a local nonprofit we partner with, which provided childcare assistance and additional resources.
The impact? She was able to focus more on her work and family without the stress of laundry weighing her down. A few months later, she sent us a heartfelt message saying that our service gave her time back—time to read to her kids at night, time to prepare meals without rushing, and time to simply breathe.
This experience reinforced why I started The Laundry Basket LLC—not just to provide a service, but to be a solution, to create ease in people’s lives, and to uplift communities through something as simple, yet essential, as laundry care. Seeing how our work directly improves someone’s quality of life is the greatest success of all.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
’m Hyacinth Tucker, the owner of The Laundry Basket LLC, and my journey into the laundry and dry cleaning industry has been anything but conventional. As an entrepreneur, I’ve built and sold multiple businesses across different industries, but I was drawn to laundry services because I saw a real gap in the market—both in terms of quality service and workforce development. I founded The Laundry Basket LLC with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide high-quality, convenient, and sustainable laundry and dry cleaning services while creating economic opportunities in the communities we serve. Our company offers a full range of services, including wash-and-fold, dry cleaning, alterations, pick-up and delivery services, and even large-scale commercial laundry solutions for businesses.
Laundry is one of those never-ending tasks that most people don’t enjoy but absolutely need. We help our clients by saving them time with our pick-up and delivery services, providing high-quality care to extend the life of their clothing, ensuring convenience and affordability so families and professionals can focus on what matters most, and offering sustainable laundry solutions that minimize environmental impact. Beyond serving individuals, we also work with businesses, non-profits, and government organizations that need large-scale, professional laundry services. We’ve worked with military bases, hospitals, hotels, and shelters, ensuring that clean linens, uniforms, and garments are readily available for those who rely on them.
What sets us apart is our commitment to innovation, technology, and social impact. We’re not just another laundry service. We’ve developed a digital platform that allows laundromats and dry cleaners to offer pick-up and delivery services without the logistical headaches. Our system streamlines order management, routing, and customer communication, making it easier for small businesses to scale. One of the things I’m most proud of is our dedication to empowering communities. We run workforce training programs in Baltimore and other regions, helping people—especially minorities, veterans, and returning citizens—gain the skills they need for sustainable employment in the laundry and dry cleaning industry. We’ve also worked with organizations that assist homeless families by providing laundry services, reinforcing our commitment to giving back.
We’ve successfully expanded into Toronto, Northeast Ohio, and other markets, with plans to grow further through a licensing model. People often approach me asking how they can start their own Laundry Basket location, and we’ve designed a way for them to do so while maintaining quality and brand integrity. At The Laundry Basket LLC, we do more than just wash clothes—we provide a service that enhances lives. Whether it’s a busy professional, a small business needing reliable laundry solutions, or someone looking for a fresh start through our workforce program, we are here to make life easier. For me, entrepreneurship isn’t just about building businesses; it’s about creating impact. Every load of laundry we handle represents time saved, burdens lifted, and opportunities created—and that’s what keeps me passionate about this work. If you’re looking for a laundry service that values quality, convenience, and community impact, The Laundry Basket LLC is here for you.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I had to do everything myself in order for my business to be successful. Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I carried the mindset that if I wanted something done right, I had to do it myself. I felt like no one else could execute my vision with the same level of care and precision, so I took on too much—handling operations, marketing, customer service, and even small administrative tasks.
The turning point came when I realized that this mindset wasn’t helping me grow; in fact, it was holding me back. I was stretched too thin, exhausted, and unable to focus on the big-picture strategy that would take my business to the next level. I had to learn that delegation is not a sign of weakness, but a necessity for growth. I started building a strong team, investing in training, and trusting others to handle key aspects of the business.
Once I let go of the need to control every little detail, I saw my business thrive. My team brought fresh ideas, improved efficiency, and allowed me to step into my role as a leader rather than just a doer. Now, I actively seek out partnerships, automation tools, and processes that allow the business to run smoothly without me having to be involved in every decision. Unlearning the idea that I had to do it all myself was one of the most valuable lessons of my career—it allowed me to scale my business while also maintaining a sense of balance in my personal life.

Can you talk to us about your experience with selling businesses?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of strategic partnerships, community engagement, and leveraging technology to streamline services.
When I started The Laundry Basket LLC, I knew that simply offering laundry services wasn’t enough—I needed to create strong relationships with both individual customers and businesses. One of the key ways I did this was by forming partnerships with local organizations, universities, and corporate offices. For example, we launched a student ambassador program at Loyola University in Baltimore, where students helped promote our services on campus. This program was so successful that we expanded it to other universities, including the University of Maryland, College Park, and Johns Hopkins. By embedding ourselves in communities that needed our services the most, we created organic word-of-mouth growth.
Another major driver of growth has been community engagement and social impact initiatives. People want to support businesses that align with their values, so we made it a priority to serve underserved communities through workforce development programs and partnerships with non-profits. Our initiative to provide free laundry services for homeless families, for instance, not only helped those in need but also raised awareness about our brand in a meaningful way.
At the same time, technology has played a crucial role in scaling our operations and making our services more accessible. We developed a digital platform that allows customers to schedule pick-up and delivery easily, receive real-time order updates, and even access promotions. By integrating automation into our customer experience, we eliminated friction points that often keep people from using laundry services.
Lastly, winning pitch competitions, media features, and networking within business accelerator programs have given us credibility and exposure, helping us reach new audiences and establish trust. We’ve been featured in major publications, spoken at industry conferences, and won funding that has allowed us to expand.
By combining relationship-building, community impact, and smart use of technology, we’ve been able to steadily grow our clientele while maintaining a strong reputation. It’s not just about getting new customers—it’s about creating long-term relationships where people trust and rely on The Laundry Basket LLC.
