At Phase One Screening, our journey began with a simple yet powerful observation: healthcare can often be a stressful, inconvenient experience, especially when it comes to something as routine as blood tests. The inspiration behind Phase One Screening comes from a deep understanding of the challenges many face when it comes to healthcare accessibility. While witnessing my own father struggle with these challenges, I realized there was a significant gap in the healthcare system. It became clear that there was a strong need for a service that would bring high-quality healthcare directly to patients, wherever they are, with the same professionalism and expertise as a traditional medical facility. This insight sparked the creation of Phase One Screening, a service that offers not just a blood draw but a personalized and compassionate approach to healthcare.
By offering mobile phlebotomy services, we aim to remove barriers to healthcare, making it easier for people to stay on top of their health without sacrificing their time, energy, or comfort. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I initially started a home health agency with a passion for helping people and a clear vision to provide quality in-home care. However, the business faced challenges that I hadn’t anticipated — from difficulty recruiting qualified staff to stiff competition from larger agencies. Despite my best efforts, I found it hard to keep the business sustainable.
After realizing the home health model wasn’t working, I reflected on my passion for healthcare and helping others. Through my own experience of caring for my father and during a visit to one of my patients, I saw firsthand the struggles they faced in getting to the lab for routine blood work. That’s when the idea of mobile phlebotomy clicked. I saw a growing demand for convenience in healthcare, especially for those who struggled with transportation or had busy schedules.
I decided to pivot, let go of the home health agency, and focus on mobile phlebotomy. It was a risk, but it turned out to be the right one. The new business allowed me to continue helping people in a meaningful way, offering convenience and comfort while building a more sustainable business.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has been an incredibly effective strategy for growing my mobile phlebotomy business. From the very beginning, I focused on providing excellent, personalized service to each of my patients. Whether it was going the extra mile to ensure they felt comfortable during their blood draws or being flexible with scheduling, my goal was always to exceed their expectations. As a result, my patients began recommending my services to their friends, family, and colleagues, creating a network of referrals.
The trust and positive experiences shared by word of mouth have helped build a strong reputation in the community. Many of my new clients come to me based on recommendations from others who have already had positive experiences, which has created a steady stream of business. People appreciate the convenience, professionalism, and care they receive, and that genuine word-of-mouth promotion has been a cornerstone of my growth.
Since mobile phlebotomy is a more personalized service, patients are often eager to share how it’s made their lives easier, leading to further referrals. Over time, these organic connections have helped expand my business without the need for expensive advertising or marketing campaigns. Word of mouth has been invaluable, as it builds trust and credibility in a service where reliability and patient care are everything.
