We recently connected with Krista Hatton and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

I really loved a class I had in my undergrad, Eastern Asian Literature. I came across the Tao Te Ching and read “The valley spirit never dies. It’s called dark female-enigma, and the gateway of dark female-enigma is called the root of heaven and earth, gossamer so unceasing it seems real. Use it; it’s effortless.” This has stuck with me for so long. It has meant different things to me at different times of my life. My first business name was Her Dark Enigma, an embodiment of this poem. Now my production and design company, Dark Enigma Productions is an extension of that. Most people may think of morbidity when they hear the word Dark, but this word signifies the darkness we embark on in every new adventure only to later find our way through to the light of our successes.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I started my creative career as a photographer, developing my own concepts and building my sets inside of my home or the home of others. Currently, Dark Enigma Productions is looking for a physical studio to work and hold events out of.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Instagram has been a beautiful source of connection for my brand, however I am looking to branch out to more in person events and locations.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Being dedicated to posting content and engaging with my audience has brought immense success to my business. Utilizing all of Meta’s tools for my business has allowed me to expand and grow my audience.
