We were lucky to catch up with Adam DiMarco recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
When I moved to Austin in 2018, I started teaching at two small local studios. As a new yoga teacher in a town that has had a prominent yoga community for 25+ years, it was difficult at first to get accepted into the larger studios in town. Being a new teacher definitely has its pros and cons: all you want to do is pour your heart and energy into your classes, but half the time nobody showed up to practice. Understanding that in any field of work, it takes time to hone your skills and grow an audience, and this being especially true in the world of yoga, was a hard concept for me to grasp. My goal as a teacher is and was to lead transformative classes to rooms full of people as well as events, workshops, sound healing, and hosting retreats. I’m forever grateful I had my first teaching jobs, they allowed me to branch out into the vast world of yoga and spirituality. I had other yoga teacher friends who helped me get my foot in the door at the 2 small local studios I started teaching at. I now teach yoga at Black Swan, Flow Yoga, & Lizard Yoga, hosting regular classes, events & retreats.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I began my yoga journey at the age of 16 when I first started attending yoga classes at my local gym in Cleveland, Ohio. After two years of testing the waters, I went with a friend to Inner Bliss Yoga Studio and from there, my passion for yoga began. After 8 years, I still refer to Inner Bliss as my home studio and practice daily whenever I’m back in town. I knew my goal was to become a yoga teacher from the beginning and after graduating college at age 22 I went to Shivanada Ashrams in the Bahamas to get my 200-hr teaching certification. Upon returning to Cleveland, I got my first private client teaching weekly classes at a home yoga studio locally. I was thrilled at this opportunity, however, shortly afterwards I moved to Austin, Texas to continue to grow in my yoga career. Over the years I’ve watched my yoga career blossom into everything I hoped it would be, teaching 10 classes a week, multiple monthly yoga / sound healing events, and yearly retreats.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back I would always choose becoming a yoga teacher. The world of spirituality encompasses so many different modalities and my lifelong journey has just begun. In the field of yoga there is always more to learn whether it be anatomy, breath work, reiki, sound healing or any of the other modalities, yoga is a field that is ever growing. I’m so happy with the path I chose and can’t wait to continue evolving with my choices.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After my yoga teacher training in the Bahamas, I had the choice to stay for another month or two or go work with a client in England and travel Europe, I chose to go to England and went a few days after my training ended. When I arrived at Heathrow Airport I was detained for not having a return ticket. I had just finished a life changing experience and couldn’t fathom why this was happening, all I wanted to do was spread my teachings and travel the world. I ended up being detained and arrested at the airport for 3 days before they deported me back to the United States. This felt like a huge set back and that I had made the wrong decision. When I returned to Cleveland I went back to my old job for a month before making the decision to move to Austin, which guided me onto my divine path and is how I’m here talking to y’all today, and I couldn’t be happier.
