We recently connected with Dr. Ashley Alayoku and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Ashley, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

I think it takes a vision lead by dedication and self motivation to become successful. After putting in hard-work, being persistent and having patience, I strongly believe that when success awaits you.

Dr. Ashley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Lather Green actually begin from one soap. I wanted create party favorites for my baby shower using the theme, from my shower to yours and soaps came to mind. So I started researching and decided I’ll make natural soaps for my guests. After the shower, everyone complimented me on how they love the soap and this was the beginning of Lather Green. From then, we have grown from soaps to now facial care (cleanser, toners, masks, and moisturizers), foot care (scrubs, soaks, balms) and body care (body butters, scrubs, soaps). Lather Green focuses on bringing “Green” meaning natural to your skincare routine. We believe in treating skincare as healthcare, hence, the company is founded by 2 Pharmacists. We know the importance of what goes into the bloodstream and we strive to create products that solve a problem. Our facial care products focus on hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Our foot care target rough, dry feet and our body care helps relieve extremely dry skin and/or skin conditions. We are proud to have partnered with Amazon and Walmart.com to make sure our customers can get our products quickly and easily wherever they are in the world. We want our potential customers to know that We know how it feels to want to look and feel your best, but have trouble finding products that work for you—and that’s where we come in. Our products are made with only the purest and finest ingredients, so you can trust us when we say they’ll do what they say they do: get rid of dark spots, hydrate your dry skin and feet, or whatever else is bothering you!

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?

One of my favorite marketing story begin after I fired my marketing company. Funny, but I decide to move forward and take the research and studying on how to run a successful ad and “Do It Myself”! I didn’t see any process or effort from the team I was working with and this lead me to a different way of marketing. So I was sitting down and scrolling down my timeline then suddenly I stopped and though I have a great product I just have to pair it with familiarity. So I came around a popular song at that was trending on social media. I took the song and my “social proof” from my customer (with permission of course) and I create a short video clip using the familiar audio and pair it with social proof then my call to action and said this IT! I ran that as an ad. Overnight, my company started flooding with orders day and night. The video had reach over 20K viewers in such a short time I reached out to a co-packer to assist with the orders. I was excitedly and proud that I made this happened myself. When I thought that firing my team would bring down volume, there was something better that awaited.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building an audience on social media was very strategic to me. My plan was to have “Real, Active” subscribers that tuned in regularly. So outside of using hashtags, I ran an ad for a Free Giveaway with certain requirements to enter. Following my page and tagging a friends was the 1st step. My audience grew, simple. People love the word, FREE right! So that’s how we begin to gain a huge following. Also being featured on others people pages, shows, and podcasts allowed us to gain more followers.
