We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Si’neka Demery a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Si’Neka, thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?

One day at the gym, I’m in the locker room and there’s an elderly lady who was having personal issues getting dress, so she was quite exposed. I could tell she felt embarrassed but had to take her time to get dressed. She turns to me and says, “I’m sorry I’m so naked in your space but I just had surgery and my knees are still in recovery. I reassured her that I was not bothered at all and that I worked in the medical field so, I completely understood and if she needed help; I would be more than happy to assist her. She smiled and asked if I could help her pull up her pants because she couldn’t bend much and put on her socks. As I was helping her, she told me about her late husband and her dog waiting for her at home. I gave her one of my brands gift bags (I always keep a few on hand) and she gave me the biggest hug. Once she was dressed, I waited for her and walked her out to her ride that was waiting for her. She gave me another big hug before leaving and told me to never let the world change my heart. I’ll never forget that moment or that woman because for 30 minutes complete strangers shared a true bonding moment.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

My Empathy & Transparency truly has helped Akenis build a strong and positive reputation within the Wellness market. I showed myself building this brand from Day 1 on social media and I shared the good days and the bad days. I’ve been told that Holistic Wellness is a market that “over gives” and not many businesses succeed. That only fuels the fire within me to keep pushing forward. People need to know they have options when it comes to their mental and physical health, and they don’t have to come with side effects or insurance rejections. I’m not trying to buy people like other commercial companies, I’m simply trying to help them. I think people appreciate that more than anything.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Being on a entrepreneur journey is like a roller coaster for sure and I came into it with a ton of knowledge within the medical field from my 18 year career but I also came into it being a Freshman in the business world. I already have a ton of stories but the one that sticks out to me was when I decided to build my own website. It took me 1 full year and after being scammed by 1 web developer, I was really beating myself up about it because without a website, it felt like Akenis didn’t exist. But I’m a determined person, especially when I really want something. I worked hard to build this brand and I wasn’t going to let a simple website hiccup destroy that. I interviewed a dozen web designers before God literally placed one right in my hands. We worked together on it for 4 months before finally launching it. That was the proudest moment ever for me!!
