Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keesha Rivers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keesha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When I decided to step out on faith and move to California ( my dream state), it was definitely a process. It took so much to get here. I have a son and two grandsons , so I had to ask myself “ Is it worth it to move over 3,000 miles from everyone and everything you have ever known?”
I’ve known I’ve been chosen to do great things, ever since I was a little girl. I remember telling my mom that I didn’t know why I would get bored so easily all of the time. I would master one craft, one after the other; no matter the task.
With that cycle, it led me to leave the little small town that I grew up in ( Reddick, FL) and moved to Orlando, FL. In Orlando, I learned independency on an entirely different level. It was scary but during that process, I purchased my first home, met some lifetime friends and started IAmFlaVore Productions. Orlando literally changed my life, when I had no clue of where that start would eventually lead me.
From there, I again begin to get bored. Although I knew that it was time yet to relocate, I began to seek further in Gods direction. To hear him clearly for what would be next. Georgia, was definitely on my mind! And then it happened four years later, after receiving full revelation to go.
Georgia was more relaxed and more focused for me. However, I was still in business full-time, also college as well as operating in many gifts and talents. Through all of that, God allowed me to become nominated and win several awards, etc. Georgia celebrated all that is accomplished, starting in Florida.
After all of the hoopla calmed down, California would NOT leave my heart. I remember watching a movie and there was a part in it where the school noticed this little girl as their student was very talented and smart. They suggested to her parents, that they needed to let her go as far as she could go somewhere else, because they’ve taught her all they could teach her. Later in life, that little girl made history! I often think about , what if her parents weren’t obedient and open-minded? So, I sampled that in my own life. It was time for me to listen to that little voice and step out on what my father always taught me; that is to have FAITH no matter what the situation looked like.
And because of his life teaching, California has now become a reality. Hollywood, California to be exact. Angels living out their divine purpose on earth and now, I am among them. Everything I possibly have discovered on my Multi- facet journey, has led me up to this moment. Anyone that knows me, knows that I hate to feel caged in. I often say that “ I’m FREE now.”
Crazy thing is, my nickname from my family, has always been “ Miss Hollywood.” How cool is THAT?! It took sacrifice to get here. I truly believe that my breakthrough that is the reason for it all, will happen right here. I risked everything. Even sold items, gave away items, got my son permission to leave and accepted that I wouldn’t see my grandbabies everyday looking in their sweet little Eyes. As I’ve felt for every chapter, this one is NECESSARY.
Since being in California, like anywhere, has been trials but also triumph. However, I’ve gotten opportunities that I haven’t received anywhere else. I’ve also been able to discover “ ME” with no distractions. I’ve learned to truly put myself COMPLETELY first for the very first time in my life. I’ve discovered so much about the good and the bad, but am so grateful to be able to accept and hold myself accountable, of areas that need realigned. I’m ok with that because everything happens for a reason and California inspired me to live and not just exist. A part of living ; I’ve discovered, is reconnecting with YOU. I did it. I’m doing it. I’m FREE!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I can definitely say that Keesha Rivers is certainly an Aries! Meaning, I won’t quit and I’m not easy to forgive ( I’m working on that, lol).
I came into the Multi- Facet industry, not knowing that I was so talented. I just thought that when I had an idea, I just activated it for fun at first. Not knowing that it would inspire and help so many.
I was 8 years old, when I first discovered that I could sing. I loved singing at church with youth and it just became an interest. I auditioned for my school chorus and made it! From there with singing, acting, choreographing, music, band, student council, top 15 homecoming court , superior city, state and county drum major, cheerleader, and so much more, I had an urge to just continue to dream. The gifts kept on coming and I wouldn’t get bored.
I learned discipline at an early age because my father has always been a man of God ( Minister/ Pastor) when I was growing up. What comes with that upbringing, is structure, order and discipline. Then from there, working with juvenile youthful offenders while raising my son as a single mom. I had to have discipline.
The type of products, creatives I provide are all on my website. However, just to name a few…. Clothing apparel, Hats and Mugs.
I am also a 3X best seller on Amazon. Those books are all about my life and can be purchased through my site as well.
I believe what sets me aside from others, is my big authentic and bubbly personality even in business, I’m not all uptight all of the time. I believe that laughter is needed and should be required to maintain great mental health. Although I can get bossy lol , ( and I can), I always try to balance and provide an Ear that always let people know that business is just that with me but you can also have a good business session as well.
What I am most proud of after it’s all been said and done, is the outcome of seeing others visions come to past , further than they even think. It does my heart so much joy, when they have reached their purpose and believing in me , to help them.
Because I am adopted, I always felt that I was different, outcasted or just didn’t know how I could belong in life. That is the mission for my purpose no matter who I come in contact with. I’ve met some wonderful mentors throughout my journey in life and some of them will have one conversation with me, realize I have a gift that they want to introduce me to and then , the rest becomes history with continuing to move forward. Sometimes being multi – faceted can become overwhelming because you want to save and help everyone. That’s been my downfall thinking that everyone will have the same heart as you. Mastering rejection from unexpected souls, has become my second hobby!
I use to be a hot headed boss , until I started becoming mentally drained. It’s been 17 years being a woman in business. I’m still learning, growing, forgiving and asking for forgiveness as well.
It’s very important that we all not only help others and create opportunities for them, but to make sure that our mental health is at best to continue to dream.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was in highschool a senior, I got pregnant with my son. I first dropped out because I became depressed and confused but I was scared for a few reasons. I was scared that people would view me as a failure when so many looked up to me in school because of my talents. I was not ready because I was still living at home with my parents and didn’t know what my life would be life at 18 years old with a child to raise on my own.
During this time of drop out, I decided to return because I wanted my son to be proud of his mom one day. Not only did I go back to school, I went to college on and off for 20 years because I had to pivot my life to raise my son. I eventually graduated from college and decided to go back for my masters degree when he became an adult. I worked a full time job, sometimes two jobs, just to make ends meet to raise him correctly.
When I graduated from my first degree, my son was there cheering his mother on , as he was also in attendance for my highschool graduation when he was three months old. Now, my last and final degree is almost here!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Growing up, I was always so quiet and kept everything in because I didn’t feel that I was secure enough to speak up for myself. Now, it’s very important that I speak what’s on my mind when necessary because when I use to hold things in, I would explode when it came out. Through therapy and talking to God, I’m learning not to overthink and to represent myself well. I may not always get it right but the ones who know my heart, know that I’ve come a long way from staying silent and exploding.
