We recently connected with Lindsey Saenz and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always loved to write. From diaries when I was a kid to journaling through postpartum depression, to finally writing books, the constant theme is that I find comfort in written words.
When I began writing novels, I learned I was good at snarky dialogue, mostly because that’s how I talk regularly. I wasn’t that great at the show vs. telling aspect of writing. To learn more about how to show emotion, I bought a series of books called “writers helping writers series.” This is a collection of books that help you further dive into your character’s emotions and issues.
From explaining how an anxious mind would react to certain things to how a character’s negative traits affect not only them but also those around them. It has helped me in my writing tremendously.
I am still learning, and still striving to improve my writing, but the writers thesauruses have greatly sped up the learning process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an independently published Author who writes fade-to-black contemporary romance. This means my books get to the point where the characters start to get physical with one another, then it fades out, and you get to use your imagination. My first book was a hockey romance where the focus was heavy on mental health and healing from past trauma. My second will be a soccer romance with a hint of romantic suspense. This one is significantly steamer than the first book, but there’s still no spice.
I am most proud of the response I’ve gotten to this book; it was written to bring healing to myself, as the problems my characters struggled with are mine in some capacity. Hearing those who have read it say they’ve never felt so seen is the best form of gratification I could ever receive.
I want my books to feel like a warm hug to those who pick them up, I want them to know they aren’t alone in their struggle.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an author is when someone picks up my book and feels something. When a story I’ve poured my heart into resonates with the reader just as deeply.
I write the kind of books I’d love to read, the ones that make me feel seen, understood, and a little less alone in this world. When a reader tells me my story gave them that kind of experience, whether it made them laugh, cry, or heal in ways they didn’t expect from a book with a cartoon cover? That’s everything I could ever want.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building genuine connections with readers, fellow authors, and those who truly get why you’re doing what you’re doing. It’s priceless. It’s not just about selling books, it’s about creating a space where people believe in you and your writing as much as you believe in them.
There’s an underlying mindset of “Me vs. them” in this industry sometimes. But I truly believe in creating a community where there’s room for everyone, lifting each other up instead of gatekeeping success. That’s the cornerstone of my brand, the heartbeat of my growth. When we truly care about those around us, our stories hit harder and matter more because those who pick them up feel a genuine connection with you as the author.
