We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DENEKA DOVE a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, DENEKA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?

My legacy I hope to leave behind is one I know my daughter would be proud of. Every decision I make from business, relationships and service are made keeping in mind that there is my daughter looking up to me, persons who can speak of my character and how I present my best self to others. I have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time but it doesn’t change the mark that is left on people lives that make a world of a difference to me. Whatever we do, it must be done to the best of our abilities. Always consider how we make people feel and how that will bring about referrals, connections and other opportunities. When we have gone on beyond the living, what will we be remembered for? I hope that I am thought of as hardworking and caring of others. I can say that, but I hope that would be some of the responses that come to mind.

Touch of Pizzazz Salon is dedicated to reviving and caring for natural hair and skincare. Every client is educated and familiarized in learning what works for their hair and skin with an initial consultation. We cater to kinks, curls, wavy hair textures and locs. We use natural and organic-based hair and skincare products that aid in the healing, growth and nourishment for each person who sits in the chair. I provide braids, twists, color, cuts, makeup and loc maintenance. Services are open to women, men and children. Adding a touch of pizzazz isn’t meant to change you but enhance you, “Where just a touch is enough!”

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I pride myself on my dedication in the industry. I study some of the new trends, attend events that aid in additional skills as well as making sure my clients learn what I do. When clients are familiar with the stylists routine and time, they appear more relaxed and trusting. Falling asleep soon happens. Clients want to believe their stylist and artist will help them manage their hair, know the best recommendations and treat them with the most care.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Word of mouth and social media. Clients are my walking billboards. They take cards or pass on my information for people to check me out for themselves. I appreciate the referrals because I know they light up talking about the experience and care they received during their service.
