Susie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
In 2020, I was working as a nurse when the pandemic changed everything. I started to search for more outside of the hospital. I had a passion for yoga and started thinking about teaching. I was full of self doubt and fear. But because of the pandemic and through the support of my yoga teachers I decided 2021 was the year to face my fears and follow my passions. I started saying yes and started doing everything that scared me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yoga has taught me to embrace my fears and find freedom through movement. I have struggled with disorder eating, infertility, and body acceptance. Teaching yoga has allowed me to share what I have learned and how I have grown.
Learning to love and appreciate my physical body. Learning to connect to my heart and internal intuition. Learning that yoga is for ALL bodies. Diets lead to toxic behaviors. Mental health matters. Rest and breath is important.
Yoga in combination with intuitive eating helped me recover. from my disordered eat. Teaching yoga has become my creative outlet.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
From the age of 30-35. I struggled with infertility and miscarriages. I didn’t know what my future held. I was angry with my body for being “broken”. I was heartbroken.
My yoga practice slowly started to heal my belief that I was broken. It allowed me space to connect to myself, to believe in myself.
I started to create a life I never had envisioned. Believe I could be happy with a different path. I started teaching yoga, found balance as a nurse, taking international trips. I am almost 40 and I can’t imagine my life looking any different. I genuinely feel blessed to be exactly where I am.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
You have to find your passion and share it with others. Find what you have to offer your students and not be afraid to be different. Step outside the cookie cutter yoga teacher role
