We were lucky to catch up with Diego Uriostegui recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diego, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At URG Studios, our mission is to empower artists by providing a creative space where musical dreams come to life. We are dedicated to offering top-tier recording, production, and rehearsal spaces that inspire creativity, foster collaboration, and elevate artistry.
At URG Studios, your sound matters—because your music is more than just a project; it’s your dream, and we’re here to help you bring it to life.
We continue to do what we do because I was blessed with an opportunity to help and there are many artists with amazing talent and stories that deserve to be heard. It is meaningful to us because we understand the power of music and expressing yourself and many people do not have the opportunity to do it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in socal and come from an immigrant family that has always supported my dream to make music. I started by making beats on my moms computer in the spare bedroom of their house and just started making music because it is fun. Around 2017, I had people contacting me to help them produce and record their songs so I bought a $200 microphone and just started recording in my parents house. It got awkward as my clientele started growing because I had random people showing up to my house to record, but my parents were always supportive and it helped me create something great. In 2021, I moved the studio to its own space in Corona, CA and developed the brand that is URG Studios.
Since 2021 we have recorded hundreds of songs with artists across all genres and from every type of background. We offer services like vocal recording, song mixing and mastering, sound design, scoring for television and film, rehearsal spaces, and even podcasting. We help artists bring their vision to life in many ways.
We have artists that show up use the space and leave happy while others want a specific sound they need help creating. we help either by providing a space or by bringing in talented musicians and providing a professional experience through efficient collaboration. On the other end we have clients that it is their first time in a music studio so we can also help by showing them how to record in a booth and how to improve their songwriting. We can do this through our network of talented engineers, musicians, locations, and creatives.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The first microphone that we started with was bought with money I earned through working side jobs like door dash or helping my Dad make deliveries for his seafood business. I eventually started working with artists by charging $15 / hour to record and mix songs. This was not a lot but i saved money for years and bought pieces of equipment over time and eventually got to the point where my mixes sounded good and my equipment was state of the art. Most of my clients and artists that we work with stay with us because we always do our best to create the best art possible since the beginning and we invest everything back into the business.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2023 we were looking to host our second festival called URG Fest. We started planning in January for the event to be held in July and contacted venues. We spent months planning the event and got everything ready to go. A week before the event we got contacted by the venue saying that we couldn’t host our event at their location because the owner did not want to work with hip hop artists even after months of contacting them, signing an agreement, and even making flyers with that location address. We were stuck with the decision to cancel the event or try to replan the entire festival in a week. We decided to stick with our original date and carry on with the show. I called my team and we started finding a new location, printing out new flyers, and calling in every favor we had. In a matter of 5 days we were able to replan the entire event and provide a fun event showcasing the artists that we work with. We had local vendors and hired local security and local stage rental company and hosted an event for the community by the community. Looking back it was always meant to be that we host our own events and while it was a struggle to deal with last second changes it was well worth it to prove to our followers and ourselves that we are capable of doing great things.
