We were lucky to catch up with Bosede Iyewarun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bosede, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing that you are directly affecting an organization or an individual directly by your efforts in supporting them however you can. So YES….every year since the inception of Heartland International Fashion week; we have made it a priority to select a non-profit organization each year to donate a portion of fashion week proceeds to. I remember the very first organization we partnered with and donated a portion of the proceeds to was Fashion Honors Autism.
The way I go about seeking out which organization is in need is first by selecting the ones who do not have the resources or have not had the privilege to be offered grants and sponsorship. While a few of the ones we selected actually have had some help, I am compelled to help even more because of the effect each organization has had in our community. I also remember donating a portion of the proceeds to Ukrainian Relief at the time they were hit hardest with the war a couple of years ago. So we make every effort to impact organizations locally, nationally and internationally. This year; we plan on assisting Feed a Family and the incredible work being done to support impoverished communities in Mexico; a non-profit organization. With God, all things are possible!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Absolutely! My name is Bosede, and I am the founder and CEO of Heartland International Fashion Week (HIFW). My journey into the fashion industry has been deeply rooted in my passion for faith, culture, and high fashion. Though going to college; I graduated with a double major in Audio-Visual Communications and Photography, deep down I had a love for style and an appreciation for how fashion serves as a powerful form of self-expression. After working with Fortune 500 companies and spending over 30 years in the sales, marketing and communications arena; I started to develop an even deeper interest in Fashion starting a jewelry brand [self taught] back in 2008. By 2010; I had started my journey to production of runway shows where I could showcase my jewelry brand which God would have it; led me to create Heartland International Fashion Week.
Heartland International Fashion Week was created rooted in my faith and forged in fashion. It is more than just a fashion event; it’s a movement that celebrates global fashion, emerging talent, and cultural fusion. I am originally from Nigeria, West Africa and wanted an international show where we provide a platform for designers, models, and creatives from around the world to showcase their artistry while embracing the beauty of different cultures. We also offer model development workshops, annual influencer brunches, networking opportunities, and a fashion magazine that highlights the incredible talents shaping the industry.
Hands down; one of the biggest problems we solve is access and exposure! Many designers and models struggle to find a stage that truly values their work. We bridge that gap by creating an event where they can be seen, celebrated, and connected with industry professionals. Another thing that sets us apart is our commitment to excellence and faith-driven values. Every aspect of HIFW is built on a foundation of integrity, creativity, and global inclusivity.
I am most proud of how HIFW has grown into an international brand in just a few short years. When I say I serve a MIGHTY GOD; that’s just what I mean! We’ve welcomed designers from across the world, including Filipino couture designers, and in 2025, we are embracing even more cultural representation. Another personal highlight is launching my own fashion brand, Adeyemi RoyaLabel, which is designed for royalty and elegance with exclusive, custom-made pieces handcrafted in Nigeria.
For anyone who is just getting to know me, I want them to understand that fashion is more than fabric—it’s a voice, a statement, and a legacy. My goal is to continue creating spaces where culture, creativity, and excellence thrive, and I invite people to follow this journey, whether through HIFW, HIFWMagazine or Adeyemi RoyaLabel. If you love faith, fashion, and cultural celebration, then you’re in the right place!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are many! One thing that I have learned being in this business as long as I have is there is a HUGE difference between access to funding when you are a non-profit and when you are an LLC etc. I thought it would be good enough to submit my financials, purpose of my business, my business plan and plans on giving back but I quickly learned NOT SO.
As I reflect on how many denials I received from agencies and organizations I submitted applications to asking for assistance and how many actually got approved; the result should be enough to say WELP! This isn’t where it’s at! But you see; there is something about a God-given dream and assignment. I am deeply rooted in my faith and as a follower of Christ; I know if he gave me the assignment and the blueprint; he will make a way out of no way. Despite the rejection and the no’s received from those application responses; I wouldn’t and simply just couldn’t give up.
HIFW is so much bigger than me and my dynamic team! With literally zero funding; I somehow through the Grace of God have been able to produce the 1-week show each year! I still work full time and will continue to do so until HIFW supplements my income! I will continue to press on and keep my eyes stayed on him. Psalms 121, one of my favorite verses.
This is not for the weak. I laugh as I say this because it’s easier to give up and throw in the towel. But there are too many people out here that need us and press on we shall! There is no such thing as quitting. Each year is bigger and better and as we prepare for Season 5 in may 2025; it will be the biggest one yet!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency and Operating in Integrity. Staying consistent and following through with what you say you are going to do will make or break your brand.
From being in management and working for those organizations; one thing I took away from all the corporate training was the importance of building good and healthy relationships. Honesty is huge. If you can’t make it happen; don’t say you will do it! Being consistent is huge. You want to stay relevant. When you take the time to build your following and network; the last thing you want is to have them unfollow you because you either disappeared or went ghost! No posts. No updates etc and finally; representing your Brand to the utmost! Value your followers and respond to messages. Don’t come across as being untouchable because you have your own company. Make sure to check yourself on a regular basis and BE HUMBLE.
You always want to strive at being the STANDARD BY WHICH ALL OTHERS ARE MEASURED in your respective field.
