We were lucky to catch up with Susan Glusica recently and have shared our conversation below.
Susan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business strategist, Renee Gambino, whom I had been working with for a year in my financial practice to increase my revenue, said to me one day, “I suspect that when you do a financial plan for someone, you do more than a financial plan.” I replied, “Oh, yes! I am all in! If their kids need to learn how money works, or they are going through a divorce and need some emotional support…I am there for them.” And she said we need to get me paid for it. Due to the rigorous compliance oversight in the financial industry, I wasn’t sure how that would work and whether I would be able to have two practices.
That started a multi-week process whereby she asked me a bunch of Socratic questions to arrive at the specific additional value I could offer. She knew that the best place to create money is to take a look at what you’re giving away. Initially, I was doubtful that I had anything of value to offer, but she knew there was a way! And, as I had done and continue to do, I trusted my coach and voila! In mid-2018, I had the makings of a signature methodology, which we called the “7 Energetic Levels of Money Consciousness.”
In order to test market the idea to confirm it was a viable business, I created a 12-week program and offered it to 30 of my closest contacts in exchange for social proof (testimonials). Once that program completed, during which we ironed out some gaps, I offered the improved version to them at a vast discount, and half of them signed up. I knew I had something! And I was excited to step into my next level of being in service to better humanity.
Susan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I followed in my mother’s footsteps to become an Executive Assistant on Wall Street, and quickly moved upwards. I learned the financial industry from the inside: first investments, then the data side, and finally, insurance. I did that for 20 years until I had what I call my “crisis of legacy.” I couldn’t see where my next step was. I was a generalist, good at many things, when the industry was looking for specialists. And at the management level, I realized that I wasn’t passionate about managing others.
That was when I moved from the corporate cubicle to the client-facing side, helping people with their financial plans. After 8 years of that, I realized I had more to offer and added a second practice of coaching. Specifically, I help entrepreneurial CEOs add more meaning, joy and money to their lives. Significantly more. Because of what I call my Unique Value Blueprint, and the signiture methodology I offer, Money, Realities & Realizations with the 7 Money Realities, my clients rewrite their money stories, clear their biggest money blocks, and co-innovate their top 3 ways to their Money Reality Desire.
There is so much money resistance out there, and it shows up in myriad ways. When speaking with a business owner, I can spot it as if they have a flashing neon sign on their forehead. One that comes up with many folks, especially women, is the need to feel safe and secure and that their money won’t run out. I am overjoyed when I am able to help my clients shift out of money resistance and start being able to make it all about the money for what it enables them to be, do, have and give.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Testimonials really helped me in my coaching practice, as they confirm that my signature methodology works when you work it. My clients are all business owners, and they each have a unique way of serving their clientele. The mix of testimonials I’ve received since starting this particular business helped establish the promised outcome I offer as viable and solid for many.
I’ve always been a long-term focused person, and that has enabled me to stay in contact with my former clients to witness the ripple effect of my coaching. My clients also refer others to my practice, and if it’s a fit for me to help those referred to me, I do my best to offer them the same level of value. Consistency is key, as is walking one’s talk. I am a product of my process as well, which helps my clients step courageously into the change that’s required for the results they desire.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I’m a gregarious person who enjoys face-to-face interactions; however, when the pandemic hit, we were all forced to go virtual. So I joined several networking entities, specifically for women business owners, and found many of my clients that way. I have a conscious connection process that my business strategist, Renee Gambino, gave me that works amazingly.
I also enjoy referrals from happy clients and strategic alliance partners, and I have a referral program to incentivize and reward that activity. I added a quarterly 1-Day Money Intensive event (currently virtual only) where people can get a feel for what it’s like to work with me for a very reasonable ticket. Should someone who is referred say yes to working together after that event, the person who did the referring receives a nice commission. The commission differs depending on group or one-on-one programs.
