At first glance, mental health therapy and tax preparation may seem like two completely unrelated fields, but in reality, they complement each other in many ways. As a therapist, I work closely with individuals to help them overcome emotional and psychological barriers, many of which can stem from financial stress, instability, or lack of financial literacy. As a tax professional, I provide individuals—especially other therapists, self-employed professionals, and small business owners—with personalized guidance that allows them to take control of their financial well-being.

I got started in my career as a tax professional far before I ever found my calling as a mental health therapist. During high school, I worked the front desk for a nonprofit organization that provided free tax preparation to low-income families. Even then, I was fascinated by the process and saw firsthand how proper tax guidance could make a real difference in people’s lives. I knew I wanted to learn more, so I shared my interest with my then-supervisor. As soon as I turned 18, I was able to begin my training.
Now, 13 years later, tax preparation remains near and dear to my heart. It has provided me with a skill that I can always rely on—one that is not only valuable but also allows me to continue helping others. Throughout college and even during my graduate studies, I continued to work as a tax professional, further honing my expertise and deepening my understanding of the tax challenges many individuals and business owners face.
Helping people has always been a passion of mine, which is why becoming a therapist felt like the next natural step in my journey. I’ve been working as a mental health therapist for about four years now, and it has completely changed my life and the way I see the world. It has also opened my eyes to the financial struggles many professionals in the field experience.
