We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bhavana Dv. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bhavana below.
Bhavana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes, I’ve been able to earn a full-time living from my creative work, but it took dedication, continuous learning, and strategic steps to get here. It wasn’t instant, but every experience along the way played a role in shaping my career.
My background in art, combined with my education at SCAD, gave me a strong foundation in creative problem-solving. Beyond technical skills, it also taught me the importance of storytelling, strategic thinking, and collaboration—key elements that have been essential in my career growth.
Breaking into the industry required not just building a strong portfolio, but also putting myself in the right environments to learn and grow. I took on opportunities that allowed me to refine my craft and develop a deep understanding of branding and creative direction
Looking back, I think I could have accelerated the process by networking more intentionally early on and leveraging personal projects to showcase my unique creative voice. But I also recognize that growth takes time, and every challenge along the way has contributed to my skill set and perspective. I’m excited to keep evolving and bringing fresh ideas to the table.

Bhavana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a story teller at heart, with a passion for shaping compelling brand identities through design and strategy. My journey into advertising and design started with a deep appreciation for visual communication, leading me to pursue my MA in Advertising at SCAD. That experience sharpened my ability to blend creativity with purpose, setting the foundation for my career.
Currently, I work as an Art Director at FerebeeLane, where I help brands establish a distinctive visual presence and craft meaningful connections with their audiences. My expertise spans branding, campaign development, and defining the overall visual look and feel—translating ideas into engaging, effective design. What sets me apart is my ability to think strategically while maintaining a strong aesthetic sensibility, ensuring that every project is both visually compelling and deeply intentional.
One of the things I take the most pride in is my ability to bring fresh, thoughtful perspectives to every project. Having worked across diverse creative environments, I approach challenges with curiosity and flexibility, I believe great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about evoking emotion, communicating a clear message, and leaving a lasting impact.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to shape how people experience and connect with a brand, idea, or message. Design and storytelling have the power to evoke emotions and shift perceptions—and being able to craft that kind of influence is incredibly fulfilling.
I love the challenge of taking abstract ideas and turning them into something tangible and visually compelling. Whether it’s developing a brand’s identity or refining the visual look and feel of a campaign, the process of bringing a vision to life is what excites me the most.
Beyond that, the constant evolution of creativity keeps me engaged. There’s always something new to learn, new perspectives to explore. The ability to experiment, and innovate makes this field dynamic, and that’s what keeps me passionate about what I do every day.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One moment that truly tested my resilience was navigating the transition from being a student to breaking into the industry. As an international creative, I faced the additional challenge of building a career in a new environment connections.
After earning my MA in Advertising from SCAD, I knew that landing the right role wouldn’t just depend on my portfolio—it would take persistence, adaptability, and a strong sense of self-belief. There were moments of uncertainty, where rejection or delayed opportunities could have been discouraging. But instead of letting setbacks define me, I used them as motivation to refine my work, expand my network, and push myself.
One of the key turning points was securing my role at FerebeeLane. It wasn’t just about getting a job—it was proof that perseverance and staying true to my craft would pay off. That experience reinforced my belief that resilience isn’t just about enduring challenges; it’s about learning, growing, and continuously showing up with the same passion and commitment, no matter the obstacles.
