We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lounique Spellman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lounique, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project for me was my most recent fashion show this past August. Leading up to the event, I had no idea just how impactful it would be. The Fashion Fusion team managed to create an unforgettable experience, blending fashion, art, music, creativity, and talent into one incredible showcase. It wasn’t just a memorable night for the models, but for everyone involved. And to top it off, it was held in my own city, Atlantic City, at AC1 Studios. That made it even more special. For me, this event was a turning point. It solidified that my dreams are truly becoming a reality. I no longer have any doubt or uncertainty about my purpose. I’m stepping into it, literally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into modeling because of my mom. In a way, I feel like I’m living out her dream, but it’s also become a part of me. Growing up, I was always in the spotlight whether I was slipping into her high heels and singing, or being the one to speak up for what was right. I’ve always stayed true to who I am at heart: a creator, a kid with a big dream.
One photographer, Jason, gave me my first opportunity. Our beach shoot was the moment I realized my mission: to represent women who have a deep desire to want more and aren’t afraid of being seen. While I haven’t fully stepped into the service side of things yet, I always aim to uplift those around me, reminding them that they are incredible just as they are.
What sets me apart is that my name literally has the word “unique” in it. I pride myself on being someone who doesn’t judge others and sees beauty in every person. I want the world to know that no matter how many times you fail or make mistakes, there’s always a door waiting for you to open. Never give up.
As for fun facts, I’m a free spirit, I love to organize, and though I’m naturally shy, doing what I love helps me step into my power and blossom.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe society can support artists in more ways than just financially. Sometimes, it’s as simple as acknowledging their work, appreciating it, and sharing it with others. That kind of support can go a long way. We have to remember that no two works are the same, and sometimes an artist’s vision is truly out of this world. They should feel free to create and show whatever they want, without feeling restricted. The more we support artists by celebrating their creativity, the more we allow the world to experience their gifts.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Non-creatives often don’t understand that, as creatives, we sometimes need to recharge. Personally, there are moments when it’s difficult to speak or do anything because I have so much I want to express, but I need time to process and figure out which direction to take. It’s like a reset. Another challenge non-creatives might not grasp is that not everything you do will come with immediate payment. Success in this field often starts small, and you have to work your way up. Modeling, for instance, is a high-volume industry where persistence and patience are key. I learned that fast!
