We recently connected with Nicholas Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
As both a dancer and content creator, I am entirely self-taught.
I would consider myself someone with a lot of intrinsic motivation to learn, grow and explore. I find it much easier to get better when I take things at my own pace. So naturally, when it came to learning how to dance and edit videos, I also took this approach.
My saying is “the more you fail, the better you’ll get.” So when learning to create and edit videos, I would attempt to make my own. Filming myself make coffee, make a clone of myself in post production, put text behind myself in video. I would try a lot of different techniques and fail. A lot. Then naturally one day things got easier. A video that took me two hours to make became only thirty minutes. My efficiency and creative direction improved and I was able to manifest the ideas that only existed in my head.
While classes, books, and guided tutorials are great, and I believe everyone has their own way of learning. I truly believe that in order to get better at creating, you just have to create. Quantity leads to Quality. You only need the courage to start and the discipline to keep going.

Nicholas , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, I’m Nicholas.
A professional dancer and content creator who has spent the better part of the last 10 years creating various works to appear on stage, video and intimate gatherings.
Since I was little, I’ve always been fascinated by storytelling. I would watch movies and read books till my eyes were devoid of moisture. Envisioning myself creating my own brilliant works of art. Later in life, when I began dancing, I would lean on the characters and stories I had consumed and use them as my own inspiration for movement.
Now, having been a dancer for some time, I’ve been fortunate enough to create and choreograph my own pieces for clients such as Athena, World of Dance, Transcend Motion, and Maharlika. As well as craft my own stories through videos that I upload to my personal brand on Instagram: “Abstrakt”.
“Abstrakt” is an alias I created to showcase my internal thoughts, feelings and perspectives. A diary of my most vulnerable self, displayed in video format. In this way, I’m extremely proud of what I have created on this account as it has allowed me to truly reshape what it means to me to be an artist. Allowing me to blossom as a creative and forge a new path forward beyond dance.
“Abstrakt” has also been an amazing networking tool. Leading me to various creators and artists while also opening a new avenue within editing and video creation that I never thought possible. It is through this passion that I have done, and continue to do, some of my best work as an artist.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of creation is the flow that comes when you’re fully engrossed in your idea and execution.
When creating art, there are so many roadblocks that you must overcome in order to reach your destination. What’s the idea? In what way do I want to present this idea? Do I even like this idea anymore?
However, once you’re past the ideation phase and you’ve proceeded to action, there is no high on this earth that compares to creating freely in the flow state. The level of mental engagement, attention, and joy you feel when you start to slowly put the pieces together is intoxicating.
Most times, after completing a project, I look back at what I’ve done only to think “Wow, this came from my brain! That’s amazing!”.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission with content creation/dance has always been to express myself wholly and authentically.
I want the content I share to come from a place of honesty with myself and my work, not for anyone specific or a certain algorithm. My art is a reflection of my personal experience and my hope is that the audience I build follows not just for what I create, but for me. The “who” behind the “what”.
