We were lucky to catch up with Drew Dravis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Drew, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Quietchild has been the most meaningful project I have worked on. Before joining the group I was always searching for some way to stay in music. My dream ever since I was a kid was to be in a band. The issue is I don’t play any instruments, besides my voice, and it’s hard to find a band that only needs a voice. So instead I threw myself into other projects like choir, acapella groups and theatre, but nothing scratch that itch of performing like this band has. This group came into my life at the perfect time and satisfied a deep desire I had to continue learning, living and breathing music. I feel like it can be so easy to just leave your passions in the past, especially after school is all done, but Quietchild gave me an outlet to not accept that. It gave me a way to channel my energy in a unique way and expanded my artistry in ways I could’ve never imagined before. It gave me a reason to fall even deeper in love with an art I could never fully let go of. This band has helped me grow in so many ways inside and outside of the music, but for now I’ll leave it at this, it gave me a reason to dream, even when it felt like it was too late to.

Drew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Quietchild has been honing in on what matters most to us.
What initially drew me in was that it was nothing like I had seen before, and to be honest it took me a bit to understand, but once I saw the potential, not only in the music but in the people, I fell hard for this project. We have an vision of blending multiple genres and pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a pop artist now days. One of the things we pride ourselves on it making music like our playlists. No one’s playlist is the same genre, especially ours, so to make music like my playlist, music that takes me on a new musical journey each song, is very freeing.
We also strongly believe in what we stand for, and contrary to the name, are not quiet about it. We collectively have put our energy towards not only making new, fun music, but also to making our platform a safe place for everyone to enjoy. We believe in using our platform to support and give back to the community around us and to uplift voices that are constantly pushed down. We believe this is especially important now, and plan to work with community organizations to figure out the best way to use our platform for the people.
Overall we just love what we do, and we make sure that the core of everything we put it out, is from a place of love for the music, art and people.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
What we’ve run into before is that while people may say that support what you’re doing, it can hard to wrap their minds around exactly what it all entails. It means, a lot of late nights, a lot of energy towards one thing to move even just an inch in the right direction, and a lot of time and work. We’re especially unique because of us being a trio, we have to have insanely open and honest communication, which can sometimes be intense. Not only that but art can open up a type of creativity that is sometimes very personal and intimate and can be misconstrued very easily.
One thing that has helped us through this is just continuing to believe that we know what’s best for us, the project, and will continue to do what we believe in.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me personally I love seeing the moment when people also recognize our vision and are behind it. With us being so vocal about caring for human rights and the community, I’ve been able to have some wonderful moments with people sharing why that means so much to them, which only drives me to want to do it more and to be louder.
