We were lucky to catch up with Alex Super Beats recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I am the co-founder of OWPN Academy (owpn.space) this is a non-profit that offers free psychotherapy and professional lessons for electronic artists in Romania. A team of young and ambitious trainers, teachers, coaches, therapists and famous artists working together for electronic culture in our country.
Alex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was a freestyle & breakdancer when I was young, I got into dj’ing because we needed someone to mix the tracks for the dance crew. My high school had specialized domains in electronics but we were all big fans of music devices and how they work. In parallel, I loved being on stage and performing so dj’ing became an amazing way to express myself. After many years I realized that in the real world, all my knowledge in building stuff and making things look and sound good are what makes me special in this domain. I worked as a stage manager for 5 festivals, DJ, audio and video editor, driver, builder, booking, and advancing manager. It’s better when sitting in front of a computer and writing e-mails, to also know how to make that e-mail a real thing and its process.
In 2016, an Italian friend and I met online and created a company in Romania to make these services legal and more professional. And that idea took off in 2-3 years. We got to work for many many clients with different services that are connected to music and events. I’m very proud of my intuition which helps me keep great people close to me. I hope I am as valuable to them as they are to me.
In 2019 we found out our country’s electronic music scene has a lot to suffer because of education, ego, and mental health problems. So we started to make educational events for upcoming artists. After I started therapy everything became clear and my life just took off. I’ve done more in 5 years for me and others than all the 20 years before combined. I am a strong believer that our country’s mental health and education are very very low and everyone should have access to these services for free. Until we make this a reality corruption and social unrest will just keep growing (but this is not happening because of corruption, sweet paradox haha).
I would like our future clients to know that we, at owpn academy, are dreamers but in a good balance with our capacity to be pragmatic. We understand how to make things work and feel great. From a stage in a festival, to a line-up in an event, from a moving party bus to videos of social events meant for deep and profound conversations.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I strongly recommend reading books and watching online creators who have video proof that they are the creators of their lives. From Johny Harris to Tom Nicholas, The School Of Life, Cold Fusion, Kurzgesagt, Veritasiumetc.
Books like The Neuroscience of Human Relationships by Louis Cozolinno, Gabor Mate, Asimov, Carl Marx, Henry David Thoreau, Adam Smith, Thomas Hobbes, and my favorite Scott Peck. I don’t read Romanian books because I watch Zaiafets and Catalin Moise’s YouTube channels and that is enough for now.
My advice to everyone is to be mindful of their beliefs whether they are religious, gender, national, or family.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
YES, I wish I knew starting from middle school what therapy and coaching are but I am proud to make this a free service for those at that age who seek information.
