We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Wells. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Building a more inclusive workplace means acknowledging the invisible pressures people carry, especially parents. As the founder of Sarah Wells Brand and the author of Go Ask Your Mothers, I’ve seen how cultural expectations around parenting and work collide, making it difficult to truly thrive in either space.
As a working mom—especially a new mom—I felt the immense pressure to be everything to everyone: an exceptional employee, a high-achieving professional, and a “perfect” parent, all without asking for help. Like so many mothers, I internalized the idea that I had to prove I could do it all on my own. I kept my struggles quiet and powered through, but looking back, I see how much more sustainable and fulfilling my journey could have been if I had felt empowered to ask for support, set boundaries, and advocate for what I needed—or better yet, if those around me had proactively asked how they could support me.
That realization has shaped how I lead Sarah Wells Brand, where we design breast pump bags, pumping and nursing bras, travel gear, and cooler bags to support moms in their journey. But inclusivity goes beyond products or policies—it’s about culture. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe to set boundaries, ask for help, and prioritize their families without fear of judgment. It’s why I believe in flexibility, in designing solutions that make working parents’ lives easier, and in normalizing conversations about the real demands of caregiving and careers.
Through Go Ask Your Mothers, I’ve explored how much of this struggle is systemic—how workplaces were never designed with caregiving support as a priority and how so many of us have been conditioned to believe that needing help is a personal failing rather than a sign of a broken system. If we want truly inclusive workplaces, we need to dismantle the expectation that parents should silently absorb impossible pressure. Instead, we should create cultures where asking for help is seen as a strength, not a weakness.
For me, inclusivity is about rethinking what success looks like—not just in the workplace, but in life. It means making room for humanity in our careers, ensuring parents don’t have to choose between professional growth and personal well-being, and redefining what it really means to “do it all.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Sarah Wells—entrepreneur, advocate, and mom. I founded Sarah Wells Brand to solve a problem I faced firsthand: how to manage pumping as a working mom without sacrificing convenience, confidence, or style. What started as a single breast pump bag designed to make the pumping experience easier has grown into a full line of thoughtfully designed products, including pumping and nursing bras, cooler bags, travel gear, and accessories that support parents in every stage of their journey.
Beyond products, I’m also the author of Go Ask Your Mothers, a book that challenges outdated narratives around motherhood, workplace equity, and the support systems that parents need. My work is about more than just designing functional, beautiful products—it’s about creating a world where moms don’t have to choose between their careers and their families, where they feel seen, valued, and supported in every aspect of their lives.
How It All Started
My journey began when I became a new mom navigating the complexities of exclusive pumping while working full-time. Like so many parents, I was juggling conference calls, travel, and the constant stress of figuring out where and how to pump. I quickly realized that the bags available on the market were either unorganized, impractical, or simply not designed with a pumping parent’s actual needs in mind. So, I took matters into my own hands—quite literally. I sketched out my first design and worked with manufacturers to create the first Sarah Wells breast pump bag, combining style with the function moms actually need.
That single product sparked a movement. Today, Sarah Wells Brand is known for designing mom-first solutions that help parents reclaim their time, confidence, and ability to balance work, life, and caregiving.
What We Offer & The Problems We Solve
At Sarah Wells Brand, we design innovative, high-quality products that support pumping, breastfeeding, and parenting on the go. Our lineup includes:
✅ Breast Pump Bags – Stylish, functional, and built to fit a variety of pumps, whether portable, wearable, or standard-sized.
✅ Pumping & Nursing Bras – Designed for comfort, ease of use, and all-day wear.
✅ Cooler Bags & Accessories – Insulated storage solutions for pumped milk, making travel and work life easier.
✅ Stroller, Travel & Everyday Gear – Because parenting doesn’t stop when you’re on the move.
More than just products, we solve the daily frustrations that so many parents face—whether it’s struggling to find a way to transport pump parts, dealing with messy leaks, or trying to fit pumping into a busy, mobile lifestyle. Our mission is to remove the barriers that make breastfeeding and pumping harder than they need to be, so parents can focus on what matters most.
What Sets Us Apart?
What truly makes Sarah Wells Brand different is our deep understanding of and commitment to working moms. Our brand was built from lived experience, and every product is designed with real-world functionality in mind. We don’t just sell bags and accessories—we create solutions that empower parents.
🖤 Thoughtful Design: We obsess over the details—ensuring every product works in the real lives of parents, not just in a design studio.
🖤 Durability & Longevity: Our products aren’t just for a few months of pumping; they transition seamlessly into everyday life, long after the baby stage.
🖤 Parent-First Mission: We advocate for moms beyond just products—through education, policy awareness, and community support.
What I’m Most Proud Of
There are so many moments I cherish, but I’m especially proud of:
🔹 Changing the conversation about working moms. Through Go Ask Your Mothers and my work with Sarah Wells Brand, I’m pushing for a world where moms don’t have to silently endure impossible expectations.
🔹 Creating products that truly make a difference. The messages I receive from moms saying, “Your bag changed my pumping experience!” or “I finally feel confident pumping at work” remind me why I do this.
🔹 Giving back. We’ve built a pay-it-forward culture through our support of organizations like BreastfeedLA and nonprofit accredited milk donor banks, as well as by amplifying the voices of underrecognized communities of breastfeeding moms. Supporting parents goes beyond products—it’s about fostering awareness, advocacy, and real change in the communities that need it most.
What I Want You to Know
If you’re new here, I want you to know that Sarah Wells Brand is more than just a company—it’s a movement to support parents in every way possible. Whether you’re a new mom figuring out how to navigate pumping, a seasoned parent juggling work and family, or someone advocating for better workplace policies, you belong here.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to create products, resources, and conversations that help parents thrive. Because no one should have to choose between their career and their family—and with the right support, we don’t have to.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
High morale comes from trust, flexibility, and a shared purpose. At Sarah Wells Brand, I focus on:
✅ Trust & Flexibility – People thrive when they feel empowered. I prioritize flexibility, trusting my team to get the job done in a way that works for them. (We are all remote–and have always been remote for 12 years.)
✅ Clear Communication – When expectations and goals are transparent, people stay engaged and confident in their work.
✅ Purpose-Driven Work – When the mission matters, morale stays high. Supporting parents isn’t just business—it’s impact.
✅ Recognition & Listening – A simple “thank you” goes a long way. Checking in regularly ensures people feel valued and heard.
A thriving team is about creating an environment where people feel supported and inspired.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building a reputation doesn’t happen overnight—it comes from consistency, trust, and truly understanding the people you serve. Sarah Wells Brand was born from my own lived experience as a pumping mom, and that authenticity has been at the heart of everything we do. I’m not just designing products; I’m solving real problems I faced myself, and that connection has built deep trust with our customers.
Moms know that when they come to Sarah Wells, they’re getting more than just a bag or a bra—they’re getting something thoughtfully designed for the realities of their lives. We listen, we evolve, and we stand behind what we create with quality and care. That commitment to function, durability, and making life easier for parents has earned us a reputation for reliability.
But beyond the products, I think what truly sets us apart is our advocacy. Through my first book Go Ask Your Mothers, my Substack, podcast, partnership with justice organizations, and public speaking, I’ve been able to amplify conversations around working parents, breastfeeding rights, and the support systems families need. My goal has never been just to sell something—it’s to make sure moms feel seen, heard, and supported. That level of engagement and passion has created a community, not just a company, and I think that’s what people connect with most.
