We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Becky Ezechukwu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Becky thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
I’d say putting in some good words for me and giving me a platform to bloom. There was a point in my life I literally thought this is it! I’m at the end of the road and suddenly, a fresh of breathe air comes upon me, a door with lots of possibilities is opened for me and I could see life from a different perspective. I’m not where I’m ought to be yet, but, I’m super grateful for these baby steps! I’m grateful people have me in mind and can trust me to execute things perfectly…. It’s beautiful seeing your worth through the eyes of people and I couldn’t be more grateful and happy for that act of kindness that changed the whole thing for me.
Becky, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rebecca Ezechukwu Chiamaka. A graduate of Economics Of Michael Okpara University, Umudike. I hail from Umuobom in Ideato local government area in Imo state. I’m 27years of age, a Secretary of an NGO and also a fashion designer. I make bespoke and custom dresses and also ready to wear outfits. I started my tailoring journey 2020 during the pandemic lockdown and so far, it’s been an amazing journey although not easy as a growing brand but, the positive feedbacks from my customers, being able to make fabric/outfit choices for them and it comes out great keeps me going and I’m grateful to God for growth both the highs and lows!
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
It would be when I was down with low blood pressure! And a swollen ankle which made it hard for me to work and in those moments of pain, fear and tears, had two customers, a very close ones not just customers and they had me go through more pains just to deliver a certain outfits at a time and they knew my predicament then. Ps: I work alone, I draft, go to market, cut, gum, sew..everything alone so it was a hell of time for me then but thank God, I scaled through.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
