We were lucky to catch up with King Samuel recently and have shared our conversation below.
KING, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up, I was fortunate to be part of a Columbus based program called Transit Arts, this was a program that nurtured my creativity and self-expression. As a youth with a church background where artistic expression was extremely limited, Transit Arts was a game-changer. They provided a safe space for me to paint, share my art, and even perform my original music and dance. The fact that they valued our creativity by paying us for our work was incredible. This experience sparked a passion within me to pursue a creative career, where I could continue to express myself and share that gift with others.

KING, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a multifaceted creative, I’ve had the privilege of exploring various mediums, including photography, graphic design, painting, dance, visual art, styling, writing, production, rap, singing, event curation, and gathering. My artistic expression knows no bounds, and I’m constantly seeking new ways to innovate and inspire.
What sets me apart, however, isn’t just my versatility – it’s my meticulous attention to detail and genuine care for my clients. I take pride in guiding them through a journey of self-discovery, helping them uncover their unique creative expression and identity. Whether it’s through a photoshoot, a design project, or a creative workshop, I’m dedicated to empowering my clients to tap into their inner artist.
The impact I’ve had on my clients is what truly fulfills me. Witnessing them gain confidence, unlock their potential, and embrace their individuality is a testament to the power of creative expression. As a mental health advocate, I’m deeply aware of the importance of self-care, self-love, and self-expression. My goal is to continue creating a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for my clients to thrive.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I firmly believe that society can play a vital role in nurturing the creative spirit by investing in spaces that facilitate expression. This can include open access to art studios, galleries, performance venues, and community centers that provide resources and opportunities for artists to showcase their work.
Furthermore, financial support is crucial in enabling artists to focus on their craft. By investing in their art, society can help alleviate the financial burdens that often accompany a career in the arts. This can include grants, scholarships, crowdfunding initiatives, and purchasing art directly from the creators.
Perhaps most importantly, society must recognize the profound impact that art has on shaping our world. Art has the power to inspire, to educate, to challenge, and to heal. It can bring people together, spark meaningful conversations, and provide a platform for marginalized voices to be heard.
By valuing and supporting artists, society can reap countless benefits, from fostering creativity and innovation to promoting cultural understanding and empathy. Ultimately, investing in the arts is an investment in our collective humanity, and I believe it’s essential that we prioritize this investment to create a more vibrant, compassionate, and inspired world.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to cultivate a thriving ecosystem where creativity, healing, and community intersect. I envision a world where artists are empowered to live fulfilling lives, supported by their craft, and valued for their contributions to society.
By fostering community and providing opportunities for artists to thrive, I believe we can create a ripple effect of positive change. When artists feel seen, heard, valued, and appreciated, they are more likely to create work that inspires, uplifts, and challenges the status quo.
This, in turn, can lead to a healthier community where people feel a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection. A community that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusivity, and supports mental health and wellness.
Through my work, I aim to break down barriers and challenge the notion that artists must struggle to make a living. I believe that creativity and commerce can coexist, and that artists can be successful, sustainable, and socially responsible.
Ultimately, my mission is to help create a world where art is valued as a vital part of our humanity, and where artists are celebrated as the visionaries, healers, and change-makers they are.
