We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lexi Shroll. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lexi below.
Hi Lexi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
From an early age, it was very clear to everyone around me that I loved to sing. Whether it be belting in church choir, singing along to the radio, or putting on a performance for my parents in the living room. I was always singing.
My mom heard about this thing called vocal lessons from a family friend and she stuck me in them in elementary school. From then on, I had been in voice lessons all the way through college.
My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They encouraged me to try different genres, be it pop, musical theatre, jazz, classical, or country music. They believed in me every step of the way.
There are many moments that I look back on and realize what fantastic parents I have. They came to every gig they could, sat in the audience for every show I was in, and never missed a beat in my life as I continued to develop my artistic interests. However, one of the biggest blessings they gave me was the ability to guide me to the next step, specifically when it became time to go to college.
I was very lost during this time in my life. I was surrounded by a group of creative people who decided college wasn’t in their journey, and they went an untraditional route to follow their passions. I was torn between many different paths, and I wasn’t sure which way to go.
My parents saw this, and they knew that what I truly wanted to pursue was songwriting and music. I was too scared to take that journey—it seemed endless and unpredictable. There was a college in my backyard that held the opportunities to explore all the avenues I wanted to artistically, while allowing me to nurture other aspects of my personality (I.e. my love of learning, history, writing, etc.).
Without my parents guiding hand, I would have never attended Rollins College. I wouldn’t have had the courage or the knowledge that led me to believing in myself enough to pursue music in Nashville. I wouldn’t have had the honor of writing my first play and having it professionally produced by my college.
My path in life wouldn’t have led me to here and now, and while my parents didn’t know I would end up here, they have always been a voice of reason and support in the unpredictable journey of being an artist.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Lexi Shroll, and I am a singer-songwriter originally from Orlando, Florida. I developed a love for music very early in life. Alongside it, I was constantly writing little stories and reading books. I became a lover of stories that made you feel something.
When I was a teenager, I finally picked up the guitar (much to my dad’s absolute happiness) and wrote my first song with the first three chords I learned. It was like lightning striking. I couldn’t put the guitar down, and I had lyrics constantly flowing through my head. I wrote countless songs and fell madly in love with songwriting.
I went to Rollins College where I studied music and writing. During this period, I really discovered who I was as an artist, what sound I loved, and what dreams I wanted to pursue. I love country and folk music. I love the raw emotions and storytelling found in every song. It captivates me.
In the past few years, I started gigging at various places in Orlando, and then after I graduated college, I made the choice to move to Nashville. I love it here! There is a fantastic community of musicians and writers. It’s unlike anywhere I’ve ever been.
I thought I would be lost in the sea of many, but I still think I have a uniqueness to me that sets me apart. My musical background, in which I studied classical music for eleven years, really helps my vocals shine through. In these past few months of living here, I’ve grown to be proud of my vocal capabilities and all the work I’ve put in for the past decade. I also think my storytelling makes me distinct. Every song I write tells a story. It’s my favorite part of music.
If you want to learn more about me, all of my social media handles are under my name “Lexi Shroll.” I’m on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. I also have a website with a newsletter and up to date information about when you can catch me at my next show! It’s called lexishroll.com

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I have struggled with my entire life is perfectionism. It is what drive me to practices my arias a hundred times for competitions or nitpick over a song until it felt just right. While it benefited me in some aspects, it held me back in a lot of other ways.
I didn’t really start my social media journey until this past year. Everything I wanted to post didn’t feel good enough. I was holding myself back for years because I was afraid of what people would think or I didn’t think anything I posted was worthy enough.
I have learned to drop that concept completely. People love music and artistry because of its authenticity. People feel connected with real people. Me posting a video that might not have the best lighting doesn’t matter to anyone but me.
Letting go of the idea of being perfect all the time gave me so much more freedom to just create and enjoy what I made. Every time I post, I’m proud of myself for it. It was a massive hurdle I have had to overcome, but it has been so worth it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There are so many aspects of being an artist that I love. There’s a fantastic community of people who are welcoming and encouraging. There is the art of performing and receiving the validation from people who love your work. There’s so much fun in embracing your own unique style or voice and creating a whole business off of it. The list goes on and on.
But, what I truly love the most about being a creative is the art itself. For years, I wrote songs for no one but me (and occasionally, my parents). I built characters and scenes in my bedroom, building to the height of the bridge for the perfect resolution in that final chorus. I don’t know if there’s anything quite like the feeling of creating a song that you adore. It’s so immensely satisfying.
Even if my life shifts direction and my career changes paths, I will never stop creating music. It’s a part of me. Songwriting is the greatest love of my life.
