Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jazmyn Hard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jazmyn, thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
In 2019, I found myself holding a camera in my hands while interning at my home church, unaware that the simple act of pressing the shutter would ignite a passion that would shape my future. At the time, photography was just an interest, but my mentor noticed something special and encouraged me to pursue it. The first time I looked through the viewfinder and clicked the shutter, something shifted. I wasn’t just taking a picture; I was telling a story.
What started as a hobby quickly became an obsession. I began with a small Nikon kit my mom had purchased from Costco and photographed everything; Mackinac Island being my first real excursion. I would go out with my family, acting as if I knew everything about cameras. From that moment on, that camera was always with me, practically attached at my hip. Each click of the shutter became a new opportunity to create something meaningful, and the more I learned, the more I craved.
The moment I knew photography was more than just a pastime came when I captured a family session and brought both parents to tears. They weren’t tears of sadness but of recognition. Seeing themselves and their family in a way they never had before. That was when I realized photography was not just about taking pictures; it was about connection, emotion, and storytelling.
Over time, my camera, whom I affectionately named Betty Bee, became an extension of myself. I built Optimal Angle Photography from the ground up, driven by the thrill of immortalizing moments that would otherwise fade. No one around me was surprised when I chose a career path outside the typical 9-to-5. I craved different settings, new experiences, and creative challenges. Each session, each client, and each new opportunity fueled my love for the art. Whether behind the lens or in the editing process, I found a sense of fulfillment unlike anything else.
Now, years later, I still feel that same excitement every time I pick up my camera. It is not just a tool; it is a bridge between people, between memories, and between the past and the present. Photography found me in 2019, and I have been chasing after it ever since.

Jazmyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One of my proudest moments in my career was the first time I was told I needed to raise my prices. I was shocked and stunned. I never thought I would make it big, but hearing that my work held that kind of value was a turning point. Clients were not only willing to invest in my services but were also asking if I offered a wider variety of sessions. That moment made me realize this wasn’t just a side gig; it was my future.
Even though I am the founder of Optimal Angle Photography, I strive to build my business on capturing raw emotion, authentic moments, and the essence of people’s stories. I offer a wide range of photography services, including portrait photography, couples and family sessions, branding and business photography, weddings, engagements, and much more. Beyond just delivering images, I focus on making my clients feel seen, valued, and understood. My goal isn’t just to take a picture, it’s to create a lasting memory and an experience that resonates deeply with my clients.
What distinguishes me is the balance between discipline and artistry. While creativity fuels my work, discipline has been the foundation of my success. From early morning shoots to late-night editing sessions, from investing in continuous education through YouTube & fellow mentors to mastering the business side of photography. I have worked relentlessly to ensure every aspect of my craft is honed to perfection. I take pride in making people feel comfortable in front of the camera, capturing genuine expressions, and crafting images that are not only visually striking but also emotionally powerful.
For anyone considering working with me, I want you to know that photography is more than just a service, it’s an experience. When you book a session with Optimal Angle Photography, you’re not just receiving photos; you’re getting a storyteller dedicated to bringing your uniqueness to life. My work is about capturing the real, raw, and beautiful moments that define who you are.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing I truly had to tell myself “no” to was the expectation that my photography would instantly look like the work of seasoned professionals. In the beginning, I found myself comparing my shots to photographers who had years, sometimes decades, of experience, wondering why mine didn’t have that same polish or storytelling depth. But I had to remind myself that growth takes time.
Instead of getting discouraged, I started focusing on my journey. I embraced the learning process, experimented with different techniques, and allowed my unique perspective to develop naturally. Over time, I realized that my photography didn’t have to look like anyone else’s, it just had to reflect me. That shift in mindset not only helped me grow as an artist but also deepened my love for the craft.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My first piece of advice: Get. Your. Word. Of. Mouth. Early on, I learned that social media is a tool, but it’s not the only tool in your toolbox, and it certainly won’t work unless you’ve built a network of people who are genuinely excited to support you. No amount of hashtags or posts will have the same impact as someone recommending your work to others in real life.
What I’ve found to be crucial is building relationships with your clients, friends, and collaborators. When people trust you and see the value in your work, they naturally want to spread the word. That’s where the magic happens. It’s not just about getting likes or comments, but creating a ripple effect where your community actively helps amplify your brand.
So, while social media can certainly help, it’s those authentic, face-to-face connections that make all the difference in the long run. Take the time to nurture those relationships and let your work speak for itself through the people who believe in it.
