We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaclyn Dardarian a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaclyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I really can not see myself having a nine to five job. Nothing against having a nine. to five! The positive is that it’s a reliable job. I’ve always been a dreamer and a creative. Even the little regular jobs I have had in the past I didn’t keep for very long. Either because I just didn’t like the job itself or was board.
Jaclyn , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was doing modeling at 19 . I had a fake ID at the time … I really liked the club scene. Always had a love for music. A friend told me I should try DJing. The idea stuck. A week or two later I was at Guitar Center buying equipment.
Music takes a lot of time, a lot of labor and discipline. There were many moments when I just wanted to thro the towel in ,but I kept going. Always keep going! Its worth it! Im still always learning and always open to working with other artists. They all teach you something.
I’m most proud of my Insomniac bookings . Playing at EDC. All my releases. More are on the way. Keep your ears open.
The Director Joe Carnahan used three of my self release in a club scene in his movie Shadow Force thats suppose to be released this year .
As far a modeling My two Penthouse covers and spreads. I’m a Pet of February 2016.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
to be a busy working Dj and music producer who is constantly creating . Also making money. We have to eat right?
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I struggled a lot in school especially a the public school. I ad to honestly unlearn feeling not capable or feeling stupid. Still a work in progress sometimes.
