We recently connected with Lisa Koehler and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Having once been an over weight, bankrupt, single mom I was able to turn my life around by making a decision and following it up with action. As the Founder of the Drab to Fab Life, my mission is to not only give women hope, but to provide them with tools and resources to change their lives. Everyone woman deserves to live the Drab to FAB Life!
Lisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It seems like all of my life I have been striving for more. I had my daughter at a fairly young age (20). When she was first born we lived in Public Housing and were on Public Assistance. I was determined not to stay in that situation for long. When she was six-weeks old I entered the workforce as a telemarketer for phone surveys. I moved from various jobs slowly moving up the ladder. After landing a job as a Legal Secretary, I took an online course to get my Paralegal Certificate. Still struggling to make ends meet I even took up a paper route before dropping my daughter off at school and heading to my 9-5 job. Later I would go back night school to get my Bachelor’s Degree. At the time it seemed like nothing I did was moving me forward.
It wasn’t until I signed up to become a group fitness instructor that everything seemed to shift. I had quickly discovered my passion for health, wellness and helping others. That is when I joined Team Beachbody and became a Coach. I was already familiar with the Company as it was the secret to my 60 lb weight loss transformation.
I just recently celebrated 13 years as an Independent Representative with the Company. It’s amazing to look back now to see how all of the “small steps” contributed to the success I have today.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
At the time of starting my “side gig” I was working as a Secretary at a Corn Refinery Plant in Central Illinois. As. a single mom I was desperately struggling to make ends meet. I didn’t consider myself unique, wasn’t a sales person and didn’t have any expectations of building a successful business. However, through a lot of hard work, consistency and personal development I did. After just 2 years of starting my Plan B, I was able to quit my full-time job. Within 5 years I become a member of Beachbody’s Legacy Club.
I contribute much of my success to my Team and the Mentors I’ve had along the way. These are people who have inspired and encouraged me along the way. It’s been very rewarding to see other people’s lives change physically, emotionally and financially. Plus when you keep it FUN you’ll actually want to do it. I believe in it so much I share the opportunity with everyone I meet.
Team Beachbody® does not guarantee any level of success or income from the Team Beachbody Coach

How did you build your audience on social media?
While I built my business in a small town in Central Illinois, Social Media has played a huge part in the success of my business. I have always tried to keep it real. What you see is what you get. People can sense someone who’s not being authentic. They want to connect with genuine people they can relate to.
I have built my business through sharing my story and being vulnerable. Typically it’s the thing you don’t want to talk about that will make you relatable. For me it has been my divorce and bankruptcy. Those are not exactly things to be proud of but I know through sharing my story I will give others hope and encouragement. I do advise not share while you’re going through it, but rather after you’ve had time to heal, reflect and are on the other side of the situation.
When building on Social Media, consistency is key. It’s important that you show up every single day. Pick one platform and master it first before trying to master them all at once. People love video and they want to see you and the products, services offered. Social Media is ever changing so you need to stay up to date on the trends.
