Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Swearingen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents taught me to always give 110% at everything I do, in all aspects of life. I was taught that you should work hard for what you want, appreciate it, and take care of it. I had my first job at 15, sweeping hair in a salon. We split the cost of my first car from the money I had saved from the salon. I continued to work through high school and college whenever time would allow for gas money and “spending money”. During nursing school, my schedule wasn’t flexible enough to have a “real” job so I would pressure wash driveways and homes to make extra money. From those life lessons, I have dug deep and really applied myself to my schooling, my career, and life at home. I try to install those same ideas into my little girls.

Katie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I fell in love with the idea of skin care and really taking care of your skin early in my twenties. I noticed some sun damage on my face from living in the sun whenever I could as a teenager Thankfully, My mother was always into skincare and aesthetics so naturally I asked for some help to “fix” my skin. I found some products online that were helping my young skin at that time and I began an affiliate program with that company. That period of my life really helped me grow as a person; I was going LIVE on Facebook, branching out and trying to help others who felt the same about their skin. It was a great learning opportunity for me to see how others perceived their skin, caring for it and nurturing them in their journey.
While it was great for young 20’s skin, it wasn’t medical grade skincare. Through going with my mom to her MedSpa appointments, I began getting Botox in my forehead at 22 or 23. I’m very expressive and already had some static lines at a young age. I remember thinking how FUN it was to be in a MedSpa and leaving feeling fabulous in my own skin.
I wholeheartedly believe The Lord makes each of us beautiful in our own way, but I believe in medicine and aesthetic medicine is a great way to be able to enhance that natural beauty! I completed my first Botox & filler course right after I graduated with my MSN degree and was hooked. However, it is hard to find a job in aesthetics right away so I began my career as a nurse practitioner and kept watching videos online and following other injectors on Instagram.
Fast forward, I met Dr. Hardin and the team at Reflect Wellness and my dream was brought to life. We now offer an array of MedSpa services including neurotoxins (Botox and Dysport) along with dermal fillers, microneedling, and chemical peels.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I think making people feel comfortable and confident with you is key. If they can sit in my chair and feel welcomed, it will ease their mind and help them feel comfortable which creates a sort of confidence in me as their injector. I became a nurse first to help people. While it may not be in the sense of changing bandages and starting IVs, I am still helping people feel like their best, most confident self.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I have been in and out of med spas for years, either with my mom or for myself. I remember I was so excited to tell the nurse injector that I was signed up to do my first botox & filler course. She told me it was a waste of my own money and that I should have waited for my employer to train me & put me through their trainings. I left feeling so defeated, thinking maybe it was a waste of my hard earned money and that I would never find a job in the aesthetic industry. However, it really set a fire within me to want it even more and to keep working and pushing for what I really wanted to do with my life, which is this, injecting people and helping them love the skin God gave them.
