We were lucky to catch up with Ramon Theobald recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ramon , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The creation of an opera studio in Brazil is meant to provide a structured environment for young artists—something I didn’t have when I began developing my career as an opera pianist.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The life of an artist is built on resilience. But being an artist is not just about talent and perseverance—it’s also about finding institutions and structures that provide the foundation for growth and development.
As a musician, my journey began in a public school choir in my hometown. Later, I received a scholarship from the Brazilian government to spend a year studying in Germany. I went on to study piano at a public university and eventually worked in a public opera house, which gave me the opportunity to audition in Europe.
If I had been a talented child without access to these opportunities, I would have been just a lost talent.
This is why I want to create another structure to support and develop young Brazilian artists—a space where talent can be nurtured and given the chance to thrive.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The life of an artist is also about managing and adapting to many pivots.
The biggest and most positive one for me happened when I arrived in Paris and realized that the leadership of the Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris was open to new projects.
I wrote a proposal to create opportunities for other Brazilian artists within the Académie. Seeing that the path I had taken could now open doors for others was a major pivot in my life—one that has since become my main focus and to which I am now dedicating my energy.
