We were lucky to catch up with Haley Spencer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Haley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I’ve always tied my worth to my achievements. The faster I could hit a goal, the better I felt about myself. I thought my legacy would be about success—about the deals closed, the accomplishments listed, and the image of someone who ‘had it all together.’”
But then, life humbles you. You realize that people don’t remember the milestones; they remember the moments. My kids won’t remember how many hours I worked; they’ll remember whether or not I was present at the dinner table. My clients won’t remember how many listings I had; they’ll remember if I made their home-buying process easier, if I truly listened to them in their most stressful moments.”
I want to be the person who shows others—especially moms, women in business, and those who feel like they’re drowning—that they are capable of more than they think. That they don’t have to be perfect to be successful. That they don’t have to do it all alone.
If someone walks away from a conversation with me feeling empowered, that’s a legacy worth leaving.
I want to be known as someone who made time for people, who saw them, and who valued relationships over results.
I want to be remembered as someone who embraced the messiness of life, laughed at the chaos, and chose to be present over being perfect.
At the end of my life, I don’t want my kids to say, ‘Mom worked hard’—I want them to say, ‘Mom showed up.’ I don’t want my friends to say, ‘She was successful’—I want them to say, ‘She made me feel seen and supported.’ And I don’t want my clients to say, ‘She was a great realtor’—I want them to say, ‘She cared, and she made a difference.’
Legacy isn’t about what we achieve; it’s about the lives we touch. And that’s the kind of impact I hope to leave behind.
Because at the end of the day, the houses I sell won’t last forever. But the kindness, the encouragement, and the relationships I build? That’s a foundation that stands the test of time
Haley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After getting married in 2014, we moved to St. Louis. I was newer to the area and was doing a few different jobs. I hadn’t found my place yet and was really searching for an industry I would be able to make my own, as well as a name for myself. So, I got my real estate license. That was in 2016. I was brought on to Realty Executives of Saint Louis by a friend who was already in the industry. I was really excited to get to work and start building relationships. I got my degree from Southeast Missouri State in hospitality management and was raised with volunteering in my blood so I knew this was the foundation I was going use to build my real estate career. Realty Executives definitely took me under their wing and gave me the guidance I was lacking. They provided me with the best real estate resources available to truly grow my business.
There are so many wonderful things about Realty Executives of Saint Louis that I love. They are a wealth of real estate knowledge, always available and eager to help. They are constantly providing us with the resources to not only grow the company brand, but also my brand. At our office we are set up with a library full of marketing tools, as well as an on-site videographer that costs me nothing. It’s just all part of the top-notch service they offer. Basically, if I can dream it, they will come up with a way to help me make it happen. Unlike other brokerages, Realty Executives has always been big on developing relationships and molding those into friendships. It’s all about the people liking, knowing, and trusting in you and your skills as a real estate agent.
I have been beyond blessed that the Haley Spencer Team has grown so much since I got in the business. In 2019, I managed to talk my sister into getting her license to join my team and unbeknownst to everyone COVID hit in 2020 and really rocked the real estate market, which no one was ready or prepared to endure. I wouldn’t have made it without my sister. We have always worked together and we are so very lucky to continue that family bond. We truly know and understand how each of us works and what our strengths and weaknesses are. She is able to take ideas and run with them without any guidance from me. This is very much present on all of our social media platforms since she took them over. She is such a great addition to the team and I cannot wait to see how our marketing and social media continues to grow.
I think the biggest reason our business has grown so much is because we are heavily involved in the community and people are getting to meet us in environments outside of real estate. In my opinion, it is much easier for someone to trust you when they know there are no strings attached. There is less pressure and you are able to have conversations to really get to know people. When people start to trust you the real estate conversations seem to easily flow because it gives others the opportunity to bring it up without it being forced.
At its core, my business is about making real estate easier and more approachable for busy families—especially overwhelmed moms. Buying or selling a home can be stressful, and my goal is to remove the chaos and provide a smooth, enjoyable experience.
Here’s what sets me apart:
✅ Real Estate with a Personal Touch – I don’t just help people buy and sell homes; I help them transition into new chapters of their lives. I take time to understand their goals, worries, and dreams, making the process stress-free and enjoyable.
✅ Community-Driven Approach – I don’t believe in pushing sales. Instead, I focus on building relationships first. Through volunteer work, local involvement, and genuine connections, I make sure people know me as a person before a realtor. When trust is built naturally, real estate conversations flow effortlessly.
✅ Creative & Engaging Marketing – My team specializes in fun, relatable real estate content. Whether through video marketing, social media, or unique listing strategies, we make sure homes stand out and buyers feel informed. Thanks to my sister’s creative talents, our online presence isn’t just about selling—it’s about educating, entertaining, and connecting with people in a meaningful way.
✅ A Support System, Not Just a Transaction – I want my clients to know that my job doesn’t end at closing. I’m here as a resource long after the deal is done, offering home advice, local recommendations, and continued support for anything they need.
I’m also incredibly proud of the team my sister and I have built. Our ability to blend business with creativity, strategy with authenticity, and professionalism with genuine human connection is something special. We don’t just sell homes—we create experiences, and that’s what makes all the difference.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When I started my real estate career in 2016, I knew I didn’t want to be just another agent chasing sales. I wanted to create a brand built on trust, connection, and making real estate more approachable—especially for overwhelmed moms and busy families.
From day one, my focus has been on building genuine relationships rather than simply growing a client list. By being deeply involved in my community—whether through volunteering, local events, or simply being an active and engaged wife and mom of two—I’ve built a reputation as someone who cares about people first and business second. I believe that when people know you as a person, they’re more likely to trust you when they need an agent.
I also made it a priority to understand my business. I specialize in working with families who need an agent that makes the home-buying or selling process feel less overwhelming. I approach real estate with a blend of education, humor, and strategy, ensuring my clients feel supported at every stage. Whether it’s helping a first-time homebuyer navigate the process or guiding a family through a big transition, my goal is always to make the experience as stress-free and fun as possible.
What sets my brand apart is my commitment to authenticity and creativity. Real estate can be stressful, but I believe it doesn’t have to be. My team and I use engaging social media content, educational videos, and creative marketing strategies to connect with people in a way that feels real, relatable, and refreshing. Thanks to my sister, who runs our social media, we’ve been able to showcase our expertise while also making the process feel approachable and even enjoyable for our clients.
Beyond that, my approach is simple: No pressure, just guidance. I want people to feel comfortable reaching out to me—whether they’re ready to buy today or just starting to consider a move. By focusing on education, transparency, and genuine care, I’ve built a business that thrives on referrals, repeat clients, and trust.
At the end of the day, my reputation isn’t about the number of homes I sell—it’s about the lives I impact. My goal is to make real estate easier for families, to create lasting relationships, and to be remembered not just as a successful agent, but as someone who truly made a difference in the lives of the people I worked with.
I’m proud of the business I’ve built, the relationships I’ve formed, and the community I get to serve every day. And if there’s one thing I want people to know about me and my brand, it’s this: I’m here to help, to guide, and to make the home-buying and selling process feel less like a transaction and more like the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has always been relationships and community engagement. While many realtors focus on cold calls and online leads, I’ve built my business through genuine connections, referrals, and trust.
My approach is simple: Show up for people before they need you. Whether it’s through volunteering, supporting local vendors at networking events, or being highly active in my kids’ schools, I’ve made it a priority to be a familiar face, not just a salesperson. People want to work with someone they already know, like, and trust—and I’ve built my business around creating those connections.
Referrals have been the backbone of my business. When past clients have a great experience, they naturally tell their friends and family. People trust recommendations from those they know, so word-of-mouth has been incredibly powerful in growing my brand. My goal is always to provide such a seamless, stress-free experience that clients feel confident referring me to others.
Beyond that, social media has played a huge role in bringing in new clients. By creating engaging, educational, and often humorous content tailored to overwhelmed moms and busy families, I’ve built a brand that resonates with people. Instead of just showcasing listings, I focus on real-life experiences, home-buying tips, and the human side of real estate. This approach has helped me attract new clients and build trust long before they even need an agent.
At the end of the day, my best source of new clients isn’t a marketing strategy—it’s consistently showing up, supporting my community, and making real estate feel approachable and stress-free.
