We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Myra Fabling a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Myra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My journey to opening a photography studio specializing in portraits and headshots was shaped by a lifetime of experiences both in front of and behind the camera. I was always captivated by the magic of storytelling through imagery.
My deep connection to photography developed naturally. Having spent years as a performer, I understood the power of a single image—how it could open doors, capture a person’s essence, and tell a story before a word was spoken. I saw firsthand how a great headshot could make all the difference in an actor’s career, in anyone’s career. But beyond the industry side of it, I was fascinated by people—their expressions, their emotions, their unique beauty.
When I picked up a camera, I realized I had the ability to make people feel seen, confident, and celebrated. What began as a personal passion soon turned into a calling, a service in high demand – I did not know I was filling. I guess you could say my approach was and still is – This journey isn’t about me- it’s about my clients. I’m here to help them tell their story. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being you and sharing.
Opening my studio felt like a natural evolution of my artistic path. I wanted to create a space where people felt comfortable, where they could express themselves freely, and where I could help them put their best selves forward. Photography became more than just an art form—it became a way for me to uplift, encourage, and empower others. Today, every session is a collaboration, a chance to connect, and a reminder of why I fell in love with this craft in the first place.

Myra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Myra Fabling. I’m an artist, photographer, and business owner of Myra Fabling Photography. My love for the arts, imagery, and storytelling. I have woven my passions, talents, and experiences into a career that allows me to make a meaningful impact. I am dedicated to celebrating individuality and capturing the unique essence of every person I photograph—I hope that truly shines through.
I specialize in portrait, headshot, and commercial branding photography. While I offer portrait services, I am best known as an actor headshot photographer. My headshots meet industry standards, and I work closely with talent agencies, acting studios, and schools to help their talent get signed, land auditions, and book the roles of a lifetime.
My clients are represented by agencies in Texas, New York, and Los Angeles and have appeared in film, television, national print campaigns, and local, regional, and national commercials. I take great pride in my work, but nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients love their photos.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
It didn’t happen overnight – It took time. We worked and saved our pennies and invested in starting my business. I started with a camera, and lighting equipment. Without a marketing budget, I knew the key to growth was creating a high-quality product that my clients would be proud to share. Equally important was providing them with an amazing experience.
I am deeply committed to customer service while staying true to my artistry. My business was—and still is—largely built on client referrals!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ll be honest—it’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t post much in the beginning. I would overthink my posts and spend hours making sure they were perfect—going against everything I believe about perfection.
That said, I’ve learned that social media marketing is crucial, especially when you have little capital. It’s an essential tool for showcasing your work and getting the word out. I’m still learning how to build a social media following, but my business has always been built on customer referrals. My clients are the ones who help me the most when it comes to growing my social media presence—I truly have the best clients! They’re part of my photography family, and we support each other.
