We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.

Jennifer , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a powerhouse because I believe in myself—fully and unapologetically. I know I’m a queen, a force, and an oracle. I’m a big deal, and I finally got tired of downplaying that fact.
My journey began at Concordia University, Ann Arbor, where I studied Communication under the brilliant and creative Kathleen Rowe. As one of the handful of Black students on campus, Professor Rowe saw me—really saw me—and invited me to her office to talk about my future. I knew I didn’t want to be a teacher in the traditional sense, but I did know I wanted to understand people—how they communicate, how they connect, and how they heal. That conversation changed everything. I chose Communication and never looked back.
From there, I earned a graduate teaching degree at Eastern Michigan University and began teaching at the university level. My work took me to Taiwan, where I spent nearly a year teaching English before returning to Michigan to become a full-time professor at a community college. My fascination with interpersonal communication—conflict resolution, relationship building, identity management, and emotional intelligence—only grew deeper.
In 2016, my voice—literally—was threatened. I had surgery to remove vocal cord polyps, and suddenly, I wasn’t sure if I could sustain the demanding workload that came with teaching. That’s when I turned toward Psychology. I went back to school, eager to explore the inner workings of the mind—the missing piece in my understanding of why people communicate the way they do.
As a therapist, I worked with individuals and couples, but something felt incomplete. I wanted more. I wanted to celebrate wins and mourn losses alongside my clients. I wanted to go beyond the limits of traditional therapy—and that’s when I knew it was time to step into coaching.
What sets me apart? I bring all of me to every encounter—mental, physical, relational, and spiritual. I’m a communication expert, a psychology scholar, a Brainspotting practitioner (a powerful modality that blends felt sense, eye position, and brain processing to release trauma), an intuitive empath, and yes—an oracle. I’m also a Black woman who knows firsthand what it means to navigate racism, toxic work environments, and systemic barriers. I don’t check pieces of myself at the door—I bring the fullness of my experience to every client I serve.
The most common problems I help clients solve? Believing in themselves. Owning their power. Changing the way they speak to themselves. Setting and enforcing boundaries. Processing unprocessed trauma. For some, that looks like leaving a toxic job that keeps dangling promotions like a carrot on a string. For others, it means walking away from a cold, stagnant relationship. And for some, it’s as simple—but as radical—as reclaiming their time and saying no to constant demands.
I am most proud of the fact that I am always evolving—both in my work and my personal life. I invest in my own growth through therapy, meditation practices, exploring other dimensions, and calling on my spirit guides and helpers. And I’m not afraid to shoot my shot—with clients, with opportunities, and with life itself.
If you work with me, know this: I am me. And I invite you to be who and where you are—without apology. My work is rooted in inclusivity, creating a safe, empowering space for everyone—regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or background. I believe in honoring each person’s unique experiences while helping them rewrite the stories they tell themselves.
I’m here to remind you of one thing: You are powerful—and it’s time to own it.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that a woman’s role is a supporting role—always standing behind someone else’s dreams while silencing her own desires.
I grew up in a conservative Christian environment where self-love, self-care, and self-pleasure were not part of the conversation. I was taught that a woman’s place was in service to others, whether that meant working in the church nursery or holding everything together at home. But here’s what I’ve learned: Women can be the main character. We can celebrate ourselves, love ourselves, and claim the life we want—without apology.
I also had to unlearn the belief that my worth is measured by how much I can carry for others. There is nothing wrong with helping, but there is power in saying no, delegating, and taking up space without guilt. I realized I wasn’t put on this earth to make life easier for everyone else at the expense of my own peace—and once I learned that, everything shifted.
This realization became the foundation of my coaching practice. I help people identify where they’re overgiving, what they actually want, and how to set boundaries without losing themselves in the process. We’re not here just to pour into others—we’re here to receive the same love, support, and ease we so freely give.
I also had to unlearn the myth that I could do everything perfectly and that I had learned enough. I love to learn, especially from my beautiful Uncle Trent who has walked me through changing a tire from 800 miles away, fixing the heating element on my dryer, tiling a backsplash in the kitchen and knowing that sometimes I have to take it easy and celebrate every day. “Happy Every Day!”
I continue to learn from giants who have taken life lessons and put them in print to enhance my life and to make my journey easier. I knew a lot about interpersonal communication, relationships, psychology and therapy, but not a lot about self-worth, business and finance. When I read We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers, Money is Non-Monogamous by Sunny De Leon and Bare by Susan Hyatt everything clicked. I realized I already had the education, the skills, and the vision to build an empire—I didn’t need permission to bet on myself. I also learned that being excellent at your craft isn’t enough—you have to understand the business of doing business and believe you belong at the table.
Now, I run my own company as a Black, queer woman, walking alongside my clients as they reclaim their power and design lives that feel true to them. My business isn’t built on outside investors (although investors are welcome) or quick fixes—it’s built on real people, real stories, and real transformation. I’m in the trenches with my clients, doing the work myself while guiding them to believe in their brilliance and take bold action toward what they truly want.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. I would choose to study all of the things that contribute to me being a badass transformational empowerment coach. I would have studied business in order to learn about scaling, management, marketing and many of the other things I’ve had to learn along the way. I would eliminate the self-doubt and other bullshit that kept me from trusting my knowing. If there’s one thing I know now, it’s this: The things that make you different—the parts of you the world once tried to quiet—are often your superpowers. I’ve built a career by trusting my voice, and now, I help others do the same. If you’re willing to bet on yourself, speak your truth, and stop waiting for permission, there’s no limit to what you can create. And here’s the best part—I’m just getting started.
